Primary Purpose:
SoCalGas is seeking a Construction Technician based at our Southeast District Locations in the Orange, San Bernardino, and Riverside Counties. With pay starting at $36.78/ hr. This is a DOT safety-sensitive position.

Job Description:
Performs a wide range of physical and semi-skilled work associated with the operation, maintenance, and construction of the gas distribution system under the direction of higher-level construction personnel. Works independently on some assignments performing field service work and leak surveys.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs duties to Company guidelines and established safety procedures.
• On some assignments, maintains natural gas regulator stations and performs plastic pipeline joining.
• Installs pressure control equipment and operates those that are for two-inch pipelines and smaller.
• On some assignments, operates internally powered heavy construction equipment (e.g., hydro crane, backhoe, bobcat, etc.), safely operate, inspect company vehicles, perform and document audits on tools, equipment and vehicles.
• Dig and back-fill excavations using manual and/or powered tools and equipment.
• Makes temporary and/or permanent pavement repairs.
• Cuts, threads, and prepares pipe for welding and fusing. Tests completed joints and applies protective coatings.
• Inspects, identifies, maintains, and operates basic types of mainline pipeline valves.
• On some assignments, reads and collects district pressure charts.
• Assembles, alters, rebuilds, tests, and repairs meter set assemblies and restores service to appliances.
• Extracts information from and inputs data into computer systems. Uses computer to update records, order material, and ensures paperwork, forms, and documents are completed.
• Will be required to perform Leak Survey
• Connects, operates, and maintains tools.
• May be required to obtain and maintain a Class-A driver’s license.
• Performs various other equivalent and lower-grade functions that the employee has been trained or for which training will be provided.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 1 Year experience involving mechanical, or construction skills.
• Must have a valid California driver’s license.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test All incumbents participate in the DOT random drug testing program.
• Must have basic computer and communications skills.
• Must pass pre-qualification examinations: Mechanical Test Battery — Pipeline/Construction.
• Must pass a structured interview.
• Must successfully pass the Physical Abilities Test. Physical Abilities test is required

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in Plumbing/Technical Trade Certificate in maintenance or utility programs.
• Welding pressure control and the ability to perform basic installation, repair, and maintenance on pipeline facilities.
• Leadership ability and customer contact skills.

Physical Demands

• Will be required to work on-call on a rotating basis and will be required to work emergency call- outs and be able to work occasional extensive hours.
• Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighting 50 pounds or more with lifting objects in excess of 100 pounds as required. This job requires a very significant level of physical strength and endurance needed to effectively and safely perform the job duties as listed above (e.g., upper body/lower body/torso/back strength).

Environmental Conditions

• Work will require entry to customer premises and will include outdoor activity.
