Performs semi-skilled and manual labor work involving the care and maintenance of solid waste facilities, which includes transfer stations, landfills, sort stations, recycling centers, etc.; provides information to public regarding the various Solid Waste programs and facilities; advises users of the facilities to observe applicable regulations; directs public to appropriate facilities and/or unloading areas; and performs other related duties as assigned.
There are three (3) immediate vacancies with the Department of Environmental Management:
The eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life of the list. Temporary appointment may lead to conversion to permanent appointment.
Special Working Conditions: Exposure to hazardous, filthy, and obnoxious conditions; may also be subject to shift, weekend, and holiday work as required.

Examination: All applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be assigned a score of 70 points. An education and experience evaluation will be conducted based on the applicant’s training, education and experience as presented in the application.

Knowledge of: common hand tools and their uses; common methods, procedures, and materials used in maintenance; and occupational hazards and precautionary measures applicable to the work.
Ability to: perform heavy manual labor under obnoxious and dusty conditions; operate a vehicle; operate hand and power tools, and light motorized equipment used in grounds maintenance; understand and follow written and oral instructions; prepare simple reports; learn pertinent regulations and policies, and enforce them with tact and courtesy; and understand, communicate, and inform the public about the various Solid Waste programs, recycling, recycling services, and locations.
