Sonder Creek Academy is an independent Junior Kindergarten – 8th grade school in Walnut Creek, CA. We are looking for a strong 5th grade homeroom teacher to join us for the 2021/2022 school year (and beyond).

Our homeroom teachers are the central teacher in a student’s 5th grade experience. You will be expected to understand where your students are at, challenge them to go further, support them along the way and to lead communications with their parents. As a homeroom teacher you will lead the core subjects of reading/writing, math, science and social studies. You will have a co-teacher for reading/writing and math and specialized teachers will come in for language, art, PE, etc.

A little bit about Sonder Creek Academy: We have students in all grades, JK – 8th. Next year we will have about 125 students and twenty or so teachers and staff. Next year will be our second year and we are growing quickly. We believe that education should be challenging, that students should think about deeper questions, that students can take on difficult projects. For students to reach their potential they need to be surrounded by adults who have high expectations and who can create the right supportive learning environment. The point of school is not grades, test scores or university entrance exams. The point of school is to help students develop the skills that they need to succeed, to learn how to learn, to love learning. If we do our part right the rest will follow.

Pay: $50,000.00 – $70,000.00 per year
