Sonder is a queer woman-led cannabis lifestyle brand founded by creatives Faun Chapin and M. Paradise. Our mission is to foster creativity and community through cannabis.
Sonder is seeking a brand art director to bring ideas and stories to life across all areas of visual communication, including brand creation and identity, digital and social media, advertising campaigns, packaging, product design, print, corporate presentations, and all other relevant touchpoints. You will develop and drive creative strategy for a diverse portfolio of brands designed to reach a profoundly diverse market.
As a startup looking to build a rich collaborative environment, we will be creating this cross-disciplinary team on-site in Los Angeles. However, as we evolve, there will be an opportunity for off site flexibility.
KEY JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
— Lead the team in developing on-brand, high-performing & relevant creative for our diverse portfolio of cannabis brands.
— Partner with VP of Brand Development to define the overall visual strategy & evolution for the brands across every consumer touchpoint online and offline.
— Create and develop a high volume of assets across all channels and mediums including packaging, learning materials, social media images and assets, digital ads, emails, web assets / PDPs, print collateral, POS & retail collateral, visual merchandising, event collateral, advertisements, presentations, reports, and more.
— Grow & develop the creative team, define process & workflows, and scale capabilities ensuring that creative is meeting strategic goals.
— Ensure aesthetically consistent, top-notch visual output by giving and receiving constructive criticism in a positive and open manner.
— Ensure that the team is creatively inspired, engaged & motivated by the strength of the work they are putting into market.
— Bring in new creative ideas and digital / visual trends.
— Work closely with management and other departments to ensure projects are on track.
— Complete projects by or before deadline and with ample time for revisions as necessary.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE + QUALIFICATIONS
— Degree in graphic design or communication arts is preferred
— 5+ years of professional experience in a creative environment including managing a team, leading cross-platform design projects & creating assets for a CPG brand
— Excellent communication skills, strong process and team leadership skills
— Experience with relevant tools: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects
— Experience concepting & managing photo and video production
— Passion for beauty, aesthetics and bringing a brand’s vision to life
— Crystal clear knowledge of typography, layout, color theory and general design.
— Wonderful written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
— Intuitive understanding of branding concepts.
— Strong ability to conceptualize graphic packages based on briefs.
— Following current trends in digital design, fashion, and retail communities.
— An understanding of marketing trends, terms, and strategy.
— Master of multitasking with an attention to detail.
— Ability to work/adjust in a fast-paced environment and keep forward thinking momentum.
— Comfortable working both autonomously and collaboratively.
