Southwestern University has an immediate opening for a Landscape Architect. This position designs landscaping and grounds, develops construction documents, provides leadership for coordinating with consultants, and interacts well with the Facilities Management staff, students, faculty, and community volunteers. This position will focus on the site development and planning for the campus grounds, landscape and hardscape design, and exterior space programming. This position must be capable of understanding and applying codes and regulations, ensuring the completion of assignments per schedule, and producing quality documentation. Additionally, this position will coordinate with campus members and volunteers and oversee landscaping projects as well as the maintenance of assigned areas of campus.
Primary Duties: responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Required qualifications: Accredited Landscape Architecture Degree; 1-3 years of experience in a comparable role, or in a professional design office; understanding of site feasibility studies, site analysis, site development construction costs, space programming, and ability to work with municipal site development codes; strong planting design skills and understanding of aesthetic principals of design; knowledge of AutoCAD; graphic presentation skills including hand drawing and rendering as well as proficiency in graphic software such as Photoshop, SketchUp or similar programs; proven design and management skills; demonstrated leadership skills, including a strong work ethic; knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google applications; willingness to comply with University Safety Program; possess and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license; possess strong organizational skills; possess problem solving skills and sound judgment; possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; possess demonstrated skill, knowledge, and experience in all aspects of landscape design and maintenance; willingness to seek training to enhance or learn new skills; ability to manage and administer major programs/projects including budget, planning, staff, and operations; ability to be accessible and available in the event of emergencies or when needed to meet the ongoing mission of the University; ability to work with other University stakeholders to resolve operating problems related to work scheduling, noise, etc.; demonstrated leadership skills, including a strong work ethic; willingness to adhere to the University’s core values. Preferred qualification: Landscape Architecture License for the State of Texas preferred, CLARB registration; ArchiCAD or LandFX experience; 3-5 years’ experience in a comparable role, or in a professional design office.
