Job Overview
Responsible for the leadership and organization of the Patient Logistics Department, including Bed Management, Transfer Center and Patient Transport Departments. Ensures all team members work together for patient throughput. Leads the capacity throughput initiative working with physicians, administration, nursing and other leadership team members. Coordinates and facilitates patient throughput for both the St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center and St. Joseph’s University Medical Center campuses. Provides oversight and strategic direction for the development, implementation and maintenance of the plan to manage and coordinate a refined customer centered process for transfers, bed management and patient transportation. Monitors, coordinates and facilitates the appropriateness of direct admissions and transfers in accordance with utilization guidelines. Monitors and evaluates Remote Work performance. Responsible for development of the annual department operational and capital budgets.
Responsibilities
- Accountable for the ultimate decision-making regarding patient placement. Decisions are based on administrative and clinical information in collaboration with the appropriate patient care representative.
- Accountable for Patient Logistics, which includes Bed Management, Patient Transport and the Transfer Center. Reports hospital capacity, utilization and patient flow to appropriate parties.
- Oversees services provided, ensures appropriate patient placement utilizing Infection Control guidelines, medical necessity criteria, Patient Flow Solutions , Electronic Health Record and electronic registration system.
- Establish process for bed rentals and tracking of Gendron hospital beds.. Works with BioMed and EVS in tracking physical hospital bed availability. Ensures Remote Work performance meets department standards.
- Serves as System Administrator for the Patient Flow Solution, Transfer Center application and other related applications. Ensures that upgrades, maintenance and repairs are performed and scheduled. Determines and initiates future development of same.
- Develops and implements processes and procedures related to Bed Management, Transfer Center and Patient Transport for both campuses. Develops processes to manage patient placement in times of increased census or disaster. Works with Command Center, Emergency Management, Nursing, and other departments to facilitate patient flow and activation of surge units. Responsible for sending communications to appropriate parties.
- Oversees the coordination of Acute-Acute transfers. Implements protocols and communicate with parties involved. Provides leadership, guidance and training to staff regarding appropriateness of transfers and admissions.
- Meets all required competencies for department, unit and/or hospital.
- Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree or a Master’s degree in Nursing plus five to seven years of previous work experience in Care Management, Managed Care, Denials Management or related field. Licensure required as a Registered Nurse by the State of New Jersey. Work requires analytical ability to collect information from diverse sources and apply professional principles in performing various analyses, and summarize the information and data in order to solve problems.
