Variable Shifts Hospital professional will be responsible for the comprehensive servicing of patients with a focus on the critical aspects of patient registration including making an empathetic first impression, soliciting personal health information, answering sensitive patient questions/concerns, insurance verification, co-payments scheduling and pre access for the entire hospital. Individual will also share work in the hospitals telephone switchboard. Successful candidate will possess excellent customer service skills, have an appreciation/understanding of the importance of Press-Ganey and HCAP scores, be willing to learn various healthcare computer software.
Receives patients presenting themselves for medical care., Interviews patient or patient representative to obtain identification, nearest relative, insurance and other data. Inputs information into computer terminal; checking history to determine previous admissions. Obtains consent for medical treatment and guarantee of payment forms/signatures from patient or patient representative ensuring they understand the forms. When private room is requested, has patient or patient representative sign Private Room Request form. Prepares I.D. charge plate on addressing machine along with pertinent Lab, EKG, and X-ray requisitions. Places identification band on patient. Provides certain information to relatives of patients as necessary or directed. Interprets hospital regulations to patient or patient representative concerning smoking policy, visiting hours, and disposition of valuables. Explains to patient or patient representative patient booklet including patient’s rights, admission notice, Do Not Resuscitate pamphlet, Medicare information for Medicare patients, and complaint process. Directs patients and visitors to correct hospital area. Logs discharge data, corrects computer records as necessary. Accurately inputs into computer system patient room transfers and discharges. Keeps admission and discharge reports in order. Pulls physician copy of admission history and puts in appropriate physician’s mail bin in Physicians Room. Compiles patient census accurately each morning. Maintains current bed index of patient’s in hospital. Forwards patient index card to Switchboard Operator; sends copy of admission history to Medical Imaging, Laboratory, Patient and Family Services, and Health Information departments Provides relief and back-up for Switchboard Operator Assists in orienting new employees to job responsibilities as requested by Supervisor. Participates in the performance improvement efforts of the hospital. Produces and monitors related department quality indicators. Performs other related duties as required.
