Job Duties:
The Collector 3 locates and communicates with customers for the purpose of soliciting payment or collecting on delinquent accounts on behalf of the Department via telephone, mail, or personal visit. Using skip-tracking tools and negotiating techniques, this individual enforces Federal regulations and statutes to advise customers of necessary actions needed for repayment of various public assistance over-payments and other debts and refers collection cases for judgment, garnishment, or other enforced collection to the Attorney General’s Office for processing.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of collections, skip-tracing methods, and negotiation techniques.
Knowledge of administrative, civil, and bankruptcy laws as applied to collections.
Knowledge of mathematical computations and debtor financial statements.
Skill in oral and written expression, active listening, persuasion, and telephone etiquette.
Skill in using appropriate judgment, decision-making, and providing instruction.
Skill in using MS Office, Google Workspace, databases, and applicable automated systems.
Ability to apply federal regulations, state statutes, and department policies and procedures pertaining to the debt being collected.
Ability to analyze debt for collectability, financial positions of debtor, and collection tools available, and determine appropriate courses of action.
Ability to stay focused, on task, react professionally and compassionately while maintaining confidence.
Selective Preference(s):
The preferred candidate should possess one year of Collector 2, or two years of experience in the collection of delinquent monies in a formalized setting.
Prefer individuals with extensive knowledge of skip-tracing techniques and strong customer contact skills.

Retirement:
