Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is seeking an organized, professional, and energetic individual to serve as Medical Card Hotline Worker. Under general supervision, this position will receive, and answer calls on the statewide toll-free Medical Hotline from DCFS staff regarding the issuance of Department of Healthcare and Family Services medical cards, from medical providers regarding HFS billing procedures, and from foster and adoptive parents requesting program information. The position will respond to inquiries and provide information, utilizing knowledge of DCFS and Department of Human Services/Department of Healthcare and Family Services operations, eligibility rules, and regulations. This position provides a great opportunity for someone who is detail oriented and interested in playing a supporting role in the Department’s operations. Job Responsibilities
1. Serves as medical Card Hotline Worker
2. Receives phone requests for temporary medical card numbers from Child Protection and Intact Family workers taking protective custody of children, Utilizing DCFS systems, verifies the identity of the worker, records child specific information and case identifiers, generates temporary medical card number, confirms number with the worker, and notes the need to open a child case upon assignment of number
3. Keyboards a variety of difficult materials, including reports, records, Department forms, and notification letters to advise DHS/HFS that a DCFS child who was on an active grant should be removed from that grant
4. Maintains filing systems and pulls files for various purposes, Organizes and maintains the pending application files and pending adoption assistance files, corresponds directly with regional personnel regarding late applications on foster care files and pending adoption assistance files and as directed, follows up with DCFS and private agency staff on temporary medical card issues
5. Receives and processes the unit’s mail, including returned medical cards
6. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above
Minimum Qualifications
Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school
Requires 1 year of related office experience
Requires ability to keyboard accurately at 35 wpm
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)
1 year of experience in a public or business organization operating a multi-line phone system
1 year of experience in a public or business organization applying working knowledge of office practices, procedures, and programs
1 year of experience in a public or business organization applying working knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation
1 year of experience in a public or business organization applying working knowledge of alpha-numeric sequencing
