Office of the Secretary – State Energy Office
The Office of the Secretary serves as the department’s executive management office. The Secretary is the chief officer of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), in charge of its policy, administration, and operations. The Office of the Secretary is comprised of the Office of Management and Finance, Internal Auditor, Legal, Public Information Office, Technology Assessment, and the State Energy Office.
The Technology Assessment Division produces a wide-range of technical data, analyses, assessments, and forecasts while providing independent and timely engineering and economic information about the effects of changes or potential changes in the following energy and natural resources areas; supply, demand, utilization, technology, economics, and taxation. Within the Division, the State Energy Office promotes the efficient use and management of energy in the state. It helps maximize Louisiana’s energy potential by exploring all energy sources and by reducing current energy consumption through education, energy-use studies, and demonstrations of energy-efficient technologies. Additionally, the State Energy Office serves as the primary manager of energy efficiency and renewable energy programs funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). It coordinates the state’s residential home energy efficiency program.
LOCATION AND POSITION INFORMATION:
The Executive Staff Officer position is located within the State Energy Office/Technology Assessment Division (SEA/TAD) and serves as the confidential assistant to the Director of the State Energy Office. This position provides high-level administrative support to the SEO office and members of the executive team, serving as backup to the Secretary of DNR’s unclassified private secretary.
This vacancy is being announced as a classified position and is open to all qualified applicants. This position requires the selected applicant to serve a minimum probationary period of twelve (12) months. A current, permanent status state employee may be required to accept a probational appointment in lieu of promotion. Additional Vacancies may be filled from this announcement within 90 days of the closing date.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A baccalaureate degree plus three years of professional level experience in a public or private sector setting.
Substitutions
Six years of full-time work experience in any field will substitute for the required baccalaureate degree.
Candidates without a baccalaureate degree may combine work experience and college credit to substitute for the baccalaureate degree as follows:
A maximum of 120 semester hours may be combined with experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree.
30 to 59 semester hours credit will substitute for one year of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
60 to 89 semester hours credit will substitute for two years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
90 to 119 semester hours credit will substitute for three years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
120 or more semester hours credit will substitute for four years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
College credit earned without obtaining a baccalaureate degree will substitute for a maximum of four years full-time work experience towards the baccalaureate degree. Candidates with 120 or more semester hours of credit, but without a degree, must also have at least two years of full-time work experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree.
Graduate training in any field will substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.
A master’s degree in any field will substitute for one year of the required experience.
Graduate training with less than a Ph.D. will substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
A Ph.D. in any field will substitute for two years of required experience.
Note
Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience.
NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.
