Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management.Mission of the Department of Insurance:To promote a stable insurance market through unbiased regulation and to protect the lives and property of every citizen in all 100 counties while fostering superior, user-friendly service, courtesy, and respect.Primary Purpose of the Position:The Internal Auditor is responsible for execution of the internal audit strategies, policies, plans, and procedures and for managing internal audit staff, if any, to conduct formal reviews and analyses of an agency’s operations and controls, which includes performance/operational, compliance, information system, financial and investigative engagements and technical assistance designed to improve an agency’s operation.This position also oversees a variety of audit engagements, provides direction to staff auditor, if any, and makes modifications to audit procedures to minimize audit engagement risks.The Internal Auditor also utilizes extensive knowledge to plan and direct the operating process to assure audit and consulting procedures and reports follow auditing standards. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Working knowledge of accounting, bookkeeping, and auditing principles and practices.
Working knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to governmental programs audited.
Working knowledge of applicable information technology and internal controls to meet work needs as appropriate.
Ability to analyze and correct balance sheets and expenditure reports and to verify posted transactions.
Ability to understand and apply laws and regulations relating to maintenance of financial records.
Ability to reconstruct condition of accounts from unorganized or incomplete data.
Ability to analyze the validity of accounting records.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or in business administration or other field from an appropriately accredited institution with twelve (12) semester hours in accounting and one (1) year of accounting/auditing experience in the preparation of interpretive or analytical accounting/financial statements and reports; or Associate’s degree in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of experience as specified above; or equivalent combination or education and experience.
