The Tennessee Department of Treasury impacts the lives of Tennesseans every day. Treasury is responsible for many of the financial operations of state government, including managing more than $100 billion in assets through its various investment programs. We administer the State’s Retirement Program, RetireReadyTN, which combines the state pension plan, Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System, and the State’s Deferred Compensation plan. Treasury serves all Tennesseans by helping to educate and empower individuals to make informed financial choices, and by providing public-serving programs in the areas of college savings, financial literacy, unclaimed property, criminal injuries compensation, and more.
Job Overview:
The Employer Education and Review Specialist, as a component of the Outreach team, serves as the regional employer reporting contact, assisting local education agencies, political subdivisions, and higher education employers with the technical submission of monthly reporting files to the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System (TCRS) defined benefit pension plan. As part of reporting training, the specialist also educates employers about the laws, policies, and provisions governing employer participation in TCRS. Additionally, the specialist will review data submitted by employers to ensure the integrity of reported data. During data review meetings, the specialist collaborates with the employer to address any discrepancies in post submitted data. This multi-faceted position requires analytical data review, navigation of databases and payroll systems, combined with abilities in client relationship management and customer service.
This position is remotely based, serving the West TN region, with occasional required in-person meetings. The successful candidate should live in Tennessee, preferably in the West TN Grand Division, and provide sufficient internet connection.
Key Responsibilities:
Build and maintain relationships with TCRS-participating local education agency employers (K-12 School Districts) within the assigned grand division.
Educate and train employers on TCRS policies and procedures
Train newly participating employers on reporting to TCRS, including coordinating with new/existing payroll software vendors.
Educate employers on all employer self-service functionality and provide employers with updates related to the TCRS retirement information system (Concord).
Ensure TCRS participating employers report member data and submit contributions by the monthly reporting deadline.
Respond to employer-related inquiries each month during the reporting cycle, assisting with analyzing and resolving reporting errors in coordination with internal Treasury staff.
Test employer files in the retirement information system’s user acceptance testing (UAT) environment when there are changes with software vendors or plan types.
Administer periodic census data reviews with assigned participating employers to improve the accuracy of demographic and salary data used in the annual actuarial process.
Collaborate with employers to address needed corrections to TCRS post submission data
Facilitate coordination between TCRS employers and the State’s Deferred Compensation recordkeeper to respond to questions regarding 401k and 457b plan reporting.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from a four-year college or university
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred degrees include business, marketing, communication, accounting, finance, human resources, information science, public relations, or public administration.
Experience with payroll systems and record keeping databases
Experience with retirement program administration
