Under close supervision, these positions operate in a training capacity developing familiarity with child support laws, regulations, and policies and the program and services of the Bureau for Child Support Enforcement (BCSE). These positions will work closely with Child Support Specialists learning general case work and/or financial case work. Perform related work as assigned.
Distinguishing Characteristics
These positions work at the trainee level learning about child support laws, regulations, and policies within the BCSE and learning general and/or financial case work.

Eligibility Length: This posting is for a Continuous recruitment because of an expected need for applicants. Applicants will be placed on a database of eligible applicants for 6 months. Examples of Work
Learn to handle a child support caseload.
Learn to locate parents, assets, and sources of income.
Learn to calculate the child support formula.
Observe hearings and learn to assist legal staff.
Learn to complete applications for services.
Learn the policies as they relate to child support cases.
Learn to research legal sources such as statutes, court opinions, rules, and regulations.
Learn to draft complaints and other legal documents for use by the agency attorney.
Learn to compile case information by reviewing public documents, interviewing customers, or gathering information from other agencies.
Learn to prepare and maintain case files for the agency attorney.
Learn to prepare summaries and reports.
Learn to compose routine correspondence.
Learn to analyze caretaker and obligor cases to determine the accuracy of financial and payment histories.
Learn to perform audits, utilizing several different databases to compile all pertinent data needed to complete an audit.
Learn to verify data in the case file and the automated database affecting allocation and distribution of support payments by reviewing data for accuracy and completeness.
Learn to obtain case financial histories maintained by child support agencies in other states, if necessary.
Learn to review all manual adjustments in the automated system and all financial narratives to ensure all support due has been distributed properly.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to learn state and federal child support laws.
Ability to learn and apply agency policies and regulations.
Ability to learn the automated system.
Ability to learn the court procedures as it relates to child support enforcement.
Ability to record pertinent facts, perform moderately complex mathematical calculations, and maintain records.
Ability to complete computations and to reconcile case financial accounting.
Ability to work in a team setting.
Ability to learn interview skills and techniques.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications
Training: High school diploma or equivalent.
AND
Experience: Four (4) years of clerical and/or paraprofessional experience.
OR
Substitution: Successful completion of study from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience at a rate of one (1) year of experience for thirty (30) credit hours of education.
Special Requirement: Availability of a vehicle for continuous use may be a requisite of employment.
