GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming State Board of Nursing is seeking a Nursing Compliance Investigator to assist in protecting the public by promptly reviewing, investigating, and processing complaints against individuals licensed, practicing, or certified by the Wyoming State Board of Nursing. The Nursing Compliance Investigator handles core tasks at a complex level by critically analyzing complaints, medical records, and other investigatory documents with minimal supervision and has recognized experience in health care and/or administrative law.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
Review administrative complaints, NURSYS speed memos, and application matters as received to determine if there is a violation of the Wyoming Nurse Practice Act and/or the Board’s Administrative Rules, consulting with the Executive Director, as needed.
Receive and review complaints against individuals licensed or certified by the Wyoming State Board of Nursing or who may be practicing in the State of Wyoming pursuant to the Nurse Licensure Compact.
Assist the licensing team in reviewing applications for licensure.
Act as liaison between the Attorney General’s office, the Investigative Committee, Licensees/Certificate Holders/Applicants.
Provide guidance, answer questions, address concerns, and/or obtain additional information as needed for the assigned Board Member/Investigative Committee.
Manage/coordinate the formal disciplinary (adjudicatory) process, consulting with the Attorney General’s Office, as needed. Including, but not limited to: acting as Custodian of Records; Investigative Witness at Administrative Hearings; preparing, reviewing, and serving legal documents and pleadings in accordance with the Wyoming Administrative Procedure Act and the Board’s Rules.
Establish and maintain caseload which involves advanced investigation, documentation, and collection of evidence.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to an individual who has completed the basic program as an investigator through a program such as CLEAR.
Preference may be given to an individual with 4+ years of relevant experience (healthcare and/or administrative law).
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of evidence identification, collection, and preservation.
Highly developed interpersonal skills, particularly in speaking and listening to understand.
Health care and/or administrative law experience.
Knowledge of legal concepts, terminology, principles and procedures
Knowledge of state and federal court policies and procedures
Knowledge of Wyoming Statutes and Agency mission goals, policies, and procedures
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree (typically in Criminal Justice)
Experience:
1-2 years of progressive work experience in Investigation with acquired knowledge at the level of an Investigator
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
4-6 years of progressive work experience in Investigation with acquired knowledge at the level of an Investigator

Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, driving an automobile, etc.
NOTES:
- FLSA: Exempt
- TRAVEL: This position may have in-state travel and some out-of-state travel for training, conferences, and investigations.
