Summary
The Plant Operations Manager works from a foundation of uncompromising focus on the health and safety, while leading and managing production and logistics for Suit-Kote’s Aggregates and Asphalt operations. This hands-on leader will guide and manage the production and logistics teams in all aspects of extraction, production, quality-control, and scheduling/delivery for Suit-Kote’s Polkville NY Sand & Gravel operation and two co-located Hot Mix Asphalt plants.
Duties & Responsibilities
Safety:
· The Plant Operations Manager’s first responsibility is leading internal and external personnel in safely executing all activities on the site, including extraction, plant operations (pre-work inspections, SLAMs, safety equipment maintenance and operation, MSHA compliance, etc), contractor activities, and product distribution.
Production
· Production: Work with plant personnel, paving operations teams, and 3rd party customers to achieve production targets for aggregates plant and 2 onsite hot mix asphalt plants. Work to optimized production methods to achieve volume goals while optimizing cost; including uptime, tons per hour, overtime/wage control, and contractor management.
· Maintenance: Plans and leads execution of all plant maintenance to achieve balance between maintenance spend and equipment operational availability, prioritizing repair spend and preventive maintenance to maximize equipment operational life.
· Inventory and Quality Control: Works with sales team to establish target production of in-spec products, ensuring zero stock-outs. Directs efforts of QC staff to meet and pass applicable testing and reporting requirements.
· Procurement: Works with vendors and internal purchasing group to procure needed parts and services, balancing production needs with costs and lead times.
· Reclamation/Environmental: Works with internal and external groups to comply with environmental and reclamation targets/obligations and company guidelines.
· Logistics: Leads and manages dispatch team in allocation of company-owned and third-party trucks in delivery of aggregates and hot mix asphalt.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position leads at team of supervisors, plant operators, laborers, QC, logistics, and administrative personnel, operating a Sand and Gravel extraction and processing operation, two onsite hot mix asphalt plants, and a fleet of delivery trucks.

Preferred Education/Experience
· 5+ years of experience in aggregates and asphalt production or related industrial production environment, with proven leadership experience.
Other Skills and Abilities
· Interpersonal Skills: Plant managers must be able to effectively communicate with employees, other departments and managers and senior management.
· Leadership Skills: Plant managers must be able to motivate employees and manage conflicts to keep operations running smoothly.
· Time Management: Plant managers face production deadlines, shipping dates and more and must manage their time accordingly.
· Industrial Equipment: knowledge of heavy mobile and fixed mining, asphalt production, Trucking, and related equipment.
· Knowledge (technical/practical/managerial) – Strong knowledge of production techniques in aggregates extraction and processing, asphalt production, and a working knowledge of materials trucking/logistics.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, managers, and other stakeholders.
Reasoning/Problem Solving Ability
Key problem-solving skills include 1) Problem diagnosis prior to or during adverse events 2) Establishing a detailed and realistic plan to resolve. 3) Carrying out the plan 4) Verifying implemented plans are effective and sustainable.
Physical Demands
Moderate-intermediate positions of moderate physical activity, e.g., sitting in one place, standing, walking, climbing, sustained keyboarding, working in awkward or constrained physical positions or confined/restricted space for up to 50% of the work-day.
