THE ROLEThe Payroll Analyst is responsible for ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance for various payroll activities. This role is responsible for processing the bi-weekly payroll for a portfolio of salaried and hourly employees in a fast-paced, high-volume transactional work environment. In addition, the candidate is responsible for analyzing all payroll data entered in the system by external teams that impact staff members’ paychecks to ensure compliance with tax withholding regulations and adherence to TFA employment policies. Additionally, this role is a backup for managing colleagues’ payroll portfolios and other payroll activities when other team members are on PTO. The position requires a highly organized, responsive, and flexible candidate that can manage multiple projects while producing accurate and timely results.THE PERSONPrimary responsibilities include but are not limited to:Payroll Operation Management (60%) Manage a portfolio for all payroll related transactions submitted via the system s workflows for completeness, accuracy, and proper authorization Work on cyclical processing and end to end period activities (off cycle termination pay, direct deposit reversals, stop payments, and other payroll payments) Analyze errors and discrepancies in payroll output to determine root cause and advise external team to take appropriate actions Calculate and record salary adjustments as necessary Determine correct local tax set up for employees who work/reside in states with local taxation Audit state compliance rules for employees claiming state withholding exempt status Manage withholding orders for a portfolio, including both processing and maintaining withholding order records as required by federal guidelines Research and correct payroll errors to include balance adjustments and manual check processing for over/underpayments Process off-cycle termination pay, direct deposit reversals, stop payments and other payroll payments Run/modify ad hoc reports to help in data audits for data that requires manual work Maintain well-documented and well-organized payroll records including the processing and maintaining of withholding orders Work closely with People Team, Finance as well as other external teams to research issues as needed Team Customer Service Support (20%) Provide exceptional customer service to all our constituents Resolve pays inquiries by clarifying staff questions/issues, determining the cause of the problem; selecting and explaining the best solution to solve the problem, expediting correction or adjustment, following up to ensure resolution Research and resolve complex inquiries, seek solutions, and follow through on complex tasks Support research needed by externals teams to resolve payroll data issues Handle non-routine situations to meet department guidelines, procedures, policies, and best practices Monthly, Quarterly and Yearly Support (15%) Manage stale checks monthly reconciliation including employees outreach & re-issue Maintain payroll invoice trackers Special projects as needed throughout the year DEI Engagement and Team Contribution (5%) Participate in at least four DEI engagements each year to deepen your understanding and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivenessTHE MUST HAVESPrior Experience and/or Education Bachelor s Degree in a Business-related field 3 -4 years hands on multi-state payroll processing experience Proven track record of operating across lines of difference successfully Workday or ERP/In-house payroll system experience preferred Skills Working knowledge of payroll practices including timekeeping, tax withholding setup, gross up calculations, and auditing procedures auditing and procedures Understanding of multi-state taxation Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) Ability to provide a high level of customer service Must have advanced excel (VLOOKUP, formulas and pivot tables) Must work effectively as an individual contributor and team member THE TEAMThe Finance team ensures that Teach For America has the financial resources and reputation to get to our organizational vision of One Day .
