Teaching Matters is a national nonprofit organization, headquartered in New York City, with the mission to close the opportunity gap of a radically unequal education system for underserved and historically marginalized children. From states and districts to schools and classrooms, we partner to help teachers and school leaders develop the skills they need to teach well, lead their peers and drive school-wide improvement.
We are looking for an experienced non profit Junior Accountant to provide support to the finance department by managing daily accounting tasks. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will be part of a team of professionals working to ensure accuracy and transparency of the company’s finances.
Preparing cash receipts, payables and receivables are a large part of the junior accountant’s day-to-day work. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in GAAP and able to work comfortably with numbers with strong attention to detail.
The goal is to contribute to the overall efficient operation of the department and help the company be fully aware of its financial condition.
Responsibilities:
Maintaining accounts receivable, document bills and supporting documentation
Maintaining accounts payable, ensure timely payment of invoices, confirming validity of the debt and gathering appropriate signatures
Updating financial records via accounting software
Knowledge of grants and restricted funds
Gathering payroll expenses and input into appropriate entry line
Preparing quarterly budget under the purview of senior management
Analyzing financial statements and prepare balance sheets
Other duties as assigned by Senior Management

Location NYC – expectation is blended work environment – remote and in office.
Salary: $43,000.00 to $52,000.00/year
