Overview
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Environmental Division Technical Studies Office is currently hiring two (2) full-time Historians in the Cultural Resources Section in Davidson County.
The Cultural Resources Section is a vital part of TDOT’s Project Development and Delivery processes as well as operation and maintenance of existing facilities. The Section is responsible for ensuring compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act, U.S. Department of Transportation Act, and Tennessee Code Annotated (T.C.A.) 4-11-111. The Section identifies and assesses effects to historic and architectural resources within a TDOT project area and conducts interagency coordination and consultation with state and federal agencies. TDOT Historic Preservation works with the project designers to avoid and minimize effects to historic architectural resources. TDOT Historic Preservation consults with the State Historic Preservation Office, the TN Historical Commission, and Consulting Parties throughout project development

Minimum Qualifications
AND, due to this position working with the National Historic Preservation Act, the U.S. DOT Act, and T.C.A. 4-11-111, the position also has the following professional requirements:
1. At least two years of full-time experience in research, writing, teaching, interpretation, or other demonstrable professional activity with an academic institution, historic organization or agency, museum, or other professional institution; or
2. Substantial contribution through research and publication to the body of scholarly knowledge in the field of history.
