For more than 35 years, the MJW Companies (MJW Corporation, Inc. and MJW Technical Services, Inc.) have helped clients in the United States and internationally better understand and effectively remediate radiologically contaminated sites and comply with CERCLA, NRC, MARSSIM and complex nuclear and radiological regulations. MJW professionals include Health Physicists, Radiological Engineers, and a broad range of environmental disciplines that measure, interpret, and control radiation and environmental hazardous material exposures, and ensure the protection of workers, the general public, and the environment.
MJW is currently seeking Health Physicists to support the Energy Employee Occupational Illness Compensation Act (EEOICPA) Project in the area of Special Exposure Cohort (SEC) work.
Position: Health Physicist
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Determine whether SEC petitions meet the requirements in 42 CFR 83 and therefore qualify for evaluation and document the basis for this determination.
· Research information relevant to the feasibility/infeasibility of dose reconstruction.
· Perform all assigned aspects of SEC petition qualification and evaluation as defined in
10 CFR 83 (and the interim final SEC rule).
· Prepare an Evaluation Report that documents the basis for finding dose reconstruction infeasible for members of the class and submits the petition ER to NIOSH for review and approval.
· Produce Basis of Decision documents. These documents detail the processes and evidence used in making key decisions in defining or declining addition of a SEC class.
· Communicate with the petitioner(s) for an SEC.
Training is encouraged and candidates will work with other HP professionals.
Candidates should be reliable, mature, detail-oriented, organized, and able to work under time constraints in a busy project-oriented environment.
Preferred Skills:
· Minimum Bachelor’s degree in health physics, environmental or natural sciences, or related field
· 2 or more years’ experience in health physics or radiation safety with a strong technical/educational background in the fields of environmental science, radiological engineering, site remediation or health physics, with practical applications with CERCLA/DOE site experience preferred
· Experience with dose reconstruction on past projects, specific accidents, or other occupational exposure conditions
· Knowledge of methods and procedures used in monitoring for internal and external radiation exposures, specifically in recognition and evaluation of records that either directly or indirectly may be used to retrospectively reconstruct occupational radiation doses
· Experience with DOE facilities and AEC, ERDA, and DOE records systems
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
Requirements include:
· Knowledge of MS Office software
All candidates must have US citizenship or be legally able to work in the United States. Candidates must pass a background check.
