Key responsibilities include:Organizational development:
Continue to develop the organization’s infrastructure, including operating systems, processes and structure to enhance functioning
Establish annual organizational goals through a strategic planning process and the timelines and strategies to achieve them
Strengthen existing and foster new programmatic and fundraising partnerships
Streamline data gathering and reporting for all stakeholders
Development/fundraising:
Work with the Board to create and implement an annual fundraising strategy and plan for achieving all fundraising goals
Grow the current fundraising projections from $600,000/annual to $1 million/annual
Develop, plan and implement all fundraising events, including annual benefit
Maintain strong relationships with high level existing donors and establish new relationships
Experience and success with grant writing and networking with foundations
Engage strategically in partnership development and management
Research new funding sources and develop new revenue streams
Manage development staff
Program oversight and development:
Oversee the development, planning, implementation, evaluation, and reporting processes for the organization’s programs and services
Ensure that the programs and services offered by the organization contribute to the organization’s mission, meet a critical community need, and reflect the priorities of the Board
Develop, maintain or improve programmatic partnerships with hospitals, organizations, communities, and individuals
Communicate with the Board and stakeholders to keep them informed of the work of the organization and to identify changes in the community served by the organization
Manage, Coach and mentor the Director of Programs & the program team.
Financial management:
Work with Board, staff, bookkeeper and accountant to create annual budget and financial statements
Work with staff and accountant to produce monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports
Manage organization’s resources within budget guidelines
Manage audit process, charity registrations, corporate/legal filings, and 990 tax return filing
Ensure all necessary fiscal controls are in place and the organization is compliant in all areas
Visibility:
Oversee & guide the organization’s public profile, communications, and public relations including all social media representation
Leverage external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities
In partnership with co-Founders, serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization
Represent the organization at public events
Board development:
Ensure the Board members have the necessary information about organizational issues to execute their duties responsibly
Prepare materials and agendas for board meetings (3 per year)
Seek out and cultivate relationships with potential Board members, grow the Board
Create Advisory/Honorary Board
Provide guidance and management for the Board
Manage and cultivate the thriving Junior Board
Staffing:
Recruit, hire, training and manage the Harboring Hearts team
Develop and implement staffing policies and procedures
Qualifications
The ED will be thoroughly committed to the mission. All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience. Concrete demonstrable fundraising success and other qualifications include:
Commitment and Passion for working with transplant and cardiac patients and their families
Bachelors degree, with at least 7 years of management and fundraising experience
Demonstrable success in hitting fundraising goals
A track record of effectively leading and regionally and/or nationally scaling a performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff; ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth
Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
Leadership experience in the philanthropic sector preferred
Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning
Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
