The Construction Project Accountant will work closely the with Construction team on the multi-year transformational redevelopment of The Virginian – a Senior Housing community in Fairfax, VA. This role is responsible for maintaining the project budget, processing payment applications, and supporting the Construction Team in preparing budget reports and construction updates for internal and external review. This individual will be comfortable getting up to speed on large construction projects and will be able to work remotely or at the offices located at The Virginian.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT ACCOUNTANT
· Effectively communicate with Project Managers and Investment Team, regarding contract documents, change orders and other contract modifications, approvals, and any additional services related to project cost monitoring.
· Maintain up to date budget and project cost information for internal and external (lender) review.
· Construct Payment Applications:
o Ensure all invoices have been accrued properly and timely
o Collect and review project Subcontractor/Supplier lien waivers
o Collect, review and submit monthly Owner billings for processing
o Respond to Investment Team questions and requests
o Respond to Lender questions and requests
· Collect, review, and process change orders
· Track project schedule and analyze proposed change order impact on budget
· Prepare summary budgets for review by owner and lenders
· Track and maintain insurance compliance through completion of the project
BACKGROUND
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or CPA
· +2 years of experience in construction or real estate accounting
· Ability to work in fast paced environment and get up to speed quickly on ongoing construction project
· Highly attentive to detail with ability to explain analysis to project teams and/or other employees who have various levels of understanding of the construction project
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word
