EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Prepares adjusting journal entries, creates reports and reconciles accounts within the general ledger and other Town accounting software systemsBalances and reconciles bank accountsRecommends improvements to accounting systems and proceduresResponds to budget and financial accounting related questions and requestsAssists with grant compliance and record keepingMaintains and manages all budgeting, accounting and financial reporting for various Town related foundation groups and associationsMaintains and manages all budgeting, accounting and financial reporting for the Municipal Insurance Cooperative Agency (MICA), a self-insurance risk poolMaintains investment subsidiary ledgers and communicates with investment brokers and consultantsPerforms internal audits as requiredPrepares revenue and expenditure estimates for budgetAssists in the preparation of the Town’s annual budgetAssists in the preparation of the Town’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and related auditPrepares trend analysis schedulesPerforms debt and capital accountingPerforms other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Thorough knowledge of theory, principles and practices of accounting and financial managementKnowledge of investment principles and investment instrumentsSome knowledge of government financial management laws and practicesKnowledge and skill in the use of modern office equipment and softwareSkill in oral and written communication and the ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructionsSkill in mastering the contents of job-related regulations and procedures and applying them effectively in work assignmentsSkill in managing cash flow and in balancing computer reports to manual controlsAbility to communicate and establish positive relations with the general public, co-workers, Town officials and othersAbility to work under time pressure and plan workAbility to exercise good judgment
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Graduation from college or university with major courses in accounting, business or finance, and experience in financial management. Some supervisory experience is desired; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
