The Traffic Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operations, maintenance, and asset management of the traffic signal system. This position supervises two technicians that provide support within the Transportation & Engineering Division. The duties of the Traffic Operations Supervisor include signal timing, traffic safety, reviewing traffic studies, conducting engineering analyses, responding to resident concerns, and other municipal traffic engineering responsibilities.
Schedule:
The Transportation & Engineering Division follows a hybrid and flexible work schedule that requires only one day in the office each week and the option to work a four-day week, Monday through Thursday.
Hiring Range: $106,965.32 – $134,869.32
Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills.

Essential Duties:
Oversee operations, maintenance, and asset management of the county’s traffic signal system.
Manage the county’s signal maintenance contract and traffic signal budget.
Manage day-to-day signal timing and long-term coordination demands for corridors and subregional needs.
Administer the county’s annual traffic count program.
Respond to resident concerns pertaining to traffic and signal operations. Work involves providing excellent customer service, evaluating existing conditions, and preparing work orders.
Review and approve traffic signal plans on internal design projects and development applications.
Review and/or prepare traffic studies for signal operations and capital improvement projects.
Review traffic studies for development applications.
Conduct engineering evaluations, crash analyses, and research to determine best countermeasures to address roadway safety concerns.
Research alternative funding sources including grants, coordinate with neighboring jurisdictions on joint applications, and/or prepare applications.
Prepare and/or present at staff meetings, Planning Commission hearings, and/or Board of County Commissioner hearings. Tasks may include responding to questions or concerns from stakeholders and participating in community meetings.
Attend regional coordination meetings related to traffic operations and safety.
Supervise the Traffic Signal Technician and the Traffic Technician. Conduct performance evaluations and communicates short- and long-term goals and objectives. Assists and advises technical staff as necessary, resolves problems as non-routine situations arise, and ensures adherence to established policies, procedures and standards.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimal Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering;
AND a minimum of five (5) years of experience in transportation engineering or related field.
OR any combination of education and experience;
AND Professional Engineering License at time of hire.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Preferred – Master’s Degree
PTOE Certification
Supervisory or leadership experience
Experience in municipal transportation engineering
Knowledge of TransSuite, Synchro, and OpenGov Asset Management Software
Independent critical thinking and analysis
Demonstrating initiative, innovation, and resiliency
Experience and comfort with public speaking
Familiarity with federal, state and local regulations
Strong written and verbal communication skills
