Position Summary:
The successful candidate will be expected to execute a variety of immunohistochemical, and confocal microscopy assessments of rodents subjected to irradiation +/- chemotherapy. While the majority of assays have been optimized, the ability to troubleshoot potential difficulties will be necessary. Many of the primary responsibilities will involve close teamwork with other staff members to administer behavior tests and to perform immunohistochemical analyses of molecular and structural components of the rodent brain. While the majority of skills and techniques will be learned on the job, basic lab experience in bench chemistry and standard molecular assays will be highly desirable. Secondary job responsibilities will involve general lab maintenance and other duties necessary to the normal operation of a laboratory, as well as assisting in institutional oversight protocol submissions and coordinating vivarium re-charge accounts. The successful candidate will exhibit a high degree of maturity, organizational skills, good physical health and the ability to work with a variety of different people Expectations: Due to the nature of ongoing experiments, flexibility in the work schedule is a must, as some experiments will require work at either abnormal hours or over weekends. Our studies primarily involve analyzing the effects of ionizing radiation on animals, and applicants should be aware that their job duties will involve extensive animal work (mice). All studies performed will be in accordance with UCI safety and institutional animal (IUCAC) approval standards. The candidate must also acknowledge up front, that this research position is funded exclusively by extramural grants from the NCI, and will be subject to termination at the PI’s discretion based on any change in the disposition of these extramural funding sources. This position represents a unique and exciting opportunity to participate in state of the art translational research program aimed at elucidating the mechanistic basis of radiation effects on the brain.
Compensation Range:
$18.47 – $21.41

Required:
Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and one year of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. Willing to work “off” hours. Basic laboratory experience.
Preferred:
Willingness to travel and work with animals, immunohistochemistry, microscopy.
