The Department of Counseling and Human Services in the College of Education at
the University of Colorado Colorado Springs is seeking an experienced and dynamic Associate or Full Professor who will be appointed as a
tenured faculty member starting August 14, 2023. This member will also be expected to hold a secondary leadership appointment as department
chair. The department chair role will begin following the primary faculty appointment. The department has accredited programs with the
Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Programs (CACREP) and the Counsel for Standards in Human Service Education (CSHSE). The
candidate for this position will join a POSITIVE, THRIVING, and INNOVATIVE team of Counselor Educators, leaders and Human Services
Professionals committed to meeting the training and development needs of students within and outside of the Counseling Profession.
The standard faculty workload for a tenured faculty position is teaching 5 courses per academic year (2/3 teaching load). However, with
the secondary role as department chair, this will reduce the teaching load to 2 courses per academic year (1/1). The Department Chair role
will include departmental and leadership duties such as: scheduling courses, evaluating faculty, hiring, and working with lecturers,
addressing student feedback, leading department meetings, and serving as the department representative when engaging with stakeholder
groups. In addition to teaching CACREP core courses, opportunities are available including undergraduate courses in Human Services, graduate
courses in Counseling and Leadership and summer courses. Duties also include maintaining an advising caseload of graduate and undergraduate
students, supervising practicum and internship students, engaging in research, and providing service to support the department, college, and
university.
The successful candidates will possess, and be able to demonstrate, a variety of pedagogical approaches that enhance
student learning, including the use of technology inside and outside the classroom.
Preference for the Associate or Full
Professor position will be given to applicants with experience at the associate level who have served as a department chairperson, school
head, coordinator, or key leader in their respective programs. Applicants with experience and/or research agendas in leadership and
supervision, military populations, school counseling, children, and adolescents, and/or substance use treatment will be given preference.
