The University of Dayton’s Department of Criminal Justice and Security Studies has a broadly structured, interdisciplinary and
criminological curriculum comprised of faculty who are criminal justicians, criminologists, community activists, psychologists, political
scientists, social workers, law and justice scholars and sociologists. We seek a collaborative and strategic academic leader to serve as
Chairperson for the Department. Beginning July 1, 2023, the chairperson will be hired with tenure and at the rank of Associate Professor or
Professor.
The Department
The Department of Criminal Justice and Security Studies is the newest department
in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Dayton and has had a ninety percent increase in majors in the past five years. The
department administers an interdisciplinary curriculum comprised of coursework in criminal justice, management information systems,
sociology, anthropology, social work, political science and psychology. In addition to challenging courses and a variety of research
opportunities, the Criminal Justice and Security Studies Department offers numerous internship and experiential learning opportunities. The
department maintains a very large network of internships throughout the Greater Dayton area, as well as nationally, covering all aspects of
the criminal justice field. Students can choose between four concentrations to enhance their degree: business intelligence, criminal
justice, cybersecurity management, or prelaw. The next chair of the department will have the opportunity to expand curricular and

The Position
The Successful Chair will have the opportunity to expand
curricular and co-curricular opportunities for students by engaging students and faculty as well as fostering and sustaining partnerships
across the University and in the broader community. The chair is responsible for all administrative, curricular, co-curricular and budgetary
facets of the department. The position is on a 12-month contract and reports to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

A federal court on December 7, 2021, issued a ruling that suspends the COVID-19 vaccine requirement that
