The School of Design at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) invites applications for faculty positions with specialization in Digital Media Design.
Duties:
Revolving around an intensive studio culture, UIC Design programs simultaneously assert disciplinary expertise and foster interdisciplinary exchange. As one of four schools in the College of Architecture, Design, and the Arts, and as an active partner with the UIC Innovation Center and the Electronic Visualization Laboratory (EVL), School of Design faculty and students regularly collaborate across disciplines at a top tier research institution. Our faculty and students thrive in the dynamic urban setting, rich cultural resources, and unlimited professional opportunities of Chicago.
Faculty appointments are open rank non-tenured full- or part-time and will be filled depending on qualifications within the Clinical track. Clinical faculty in the School of Design bring specialized professional expertise to the teaching function of the school. Successful Candidates will participate in a new degree program—the UIC Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Design—established jointly between the School of Design and the College of Engineering, and in digital media design instruction/curriculum development across the School’s existing degree programs: Master of Design (MDes), Bachelor of Design (BDes), and Bachelor of Arts in Design Studies. Clinical positions carry service responsibilities within the School, the College, and the University.
Qualifications:
Candidates must hold a professional degree in design, terminal degree preferred (MDes, MFA or equivalent), and demonstrate excellence in one or more areas of experimental digital media design: creative coding, virtual and/or augmented reality, computationally responsive typography, data/product visualization, etc. College-level teaching experience is expected along with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in curriculum and the classroom. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Finalists will be asked to share a portfolio of professional and student work at interviews which will take place in late February or early March. Appointments begin August 2022.
Electronic applications must be received by 31 January, 2022. Submit a letter of interest/teaching philosophy, curriculum vitae, and a list of three professional references through the UIC job board at jobs.uic.edu.
Please direct nominations and questions or concerns regarding the search and/or application process to Annabelle Clarke, Associate Director, [email protected]. Confidentiality will be observed in the academic search process.
