Project Eagle is an early childhood program focused on preparing children, engaging families, and promoting excellence for children and families in Kansas City, Kansas. Project Eagle provides home-based and center-based services to pregnant women and/or children ages birth to five through a variety of programs, the largest being Early Head Start. Project Eagle is also a member of the Educare Learning Network, part of a national initiative that serves as a platform for broader change, inspiring high-quality programs in communities, improving public policies within each state, and demonstrating a comprehensive approach to the first five years of life and learning. The Co-Teacher is responsible for the planning, implementation and coordination of a comprehensive education program, ensures that the education program is developmentally appropriate for each child’s individual needs and meets program standards in partnership with their Co-Teacher. The Co-Teachers jointly provide leadership to the classroom, which includes leading planning sessions, monitoring classroom team observations and goal identification, advocating for and supporting implementation of best practices, and serving as models/mentors for the classroom. The Co-Teachers ensure that the classroom activities and environment are developmentally appropriate and reflect the agency’s philosophy and curriculum. They work in partnership to develop and implement individual education plans for children (ages 6 weeks through 3 years or 3 years to 5 years), which encourage their social, emotional, physical, linguistic, and intellectual development in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development. The teaching team (Co-Teacher 1, Co-Teacher 2, and Teacher Aide) provide a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment enriched by a high quality early language experience and an emphasis on social and emotional growth. The Co-Teachers are responsible for implementing all program requirements in adherence to performance and outcome standards as prescribed by funding and model requirements. This position ensures that the individual needs of the children are met as mandated by federal, state and local standards.
Knowledge, Abilities and Experience
Knowledge of child development, early childhood education, and best practice teaching methods and techniques. Ability and willingness to keep abreast of the developments in child development/early childhood education field; change classroom practice in response to individual professional development and coaching; participate in Project Eagle/Educare Kansas City’s commitment to continuously review, analyze and apply findings from local and national evaluations to program design and classroom practice. Ability to work with an interdisciplinary team as a cooperative and supportive team member; lead and support other classroom staff and collaboratively problem solve; organize and direct classroom and outside activities; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, in a manner that fosters supportive relationships with staff, families and children from diverse backgrounds; exhibit exemplary organizational skills with the ability to lead classroom staff, manage time and priorities; maintain child and family confidentiality and perform duties in an ethical and professional manner. Ability and willingness to conduct classes in a changing, evolving environment that will frequently be observed, video-recorded, modified, examined, and studied in a laboratory setting for the purpose of determining what practices promote most effectively school readiness in all preschoolers. Familiarity with and willingness to use technology in all aspects of the program.

Required Qualifications:
Ability to work as a cooperative and supportive team member.
Ability to communicate and respond in a manner that consistently demonstrates respect and concern.
Ability to communicate effectively and establish partnerships with other classroom teachers, center staff, community partners, and parents.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to individualize care based on individual children’s needs (medical, educational, family situations).
Ability to become CPR and First Aid Certified within 30 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards.
Successful experience working as a part of a multidisciplinary team to provide high quality, developmentally-appropriate care and education for young children.
Experience working with inclusion, early intervention, children with special needs and diverse populations. Experience implementing curriculum. Experience using assessment tools to measure children’s development. Experience using assessment data for instructional purposes. Experience with research partnerships.
