Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Department of Engineering Information Technology (EIT) of A. James Clark School of Engineering, University of Maryland, College Park is seeking an Operations Manager to be part of the Department’s Technical Operations Team. In this role, the incumbent will be responsible for: (1) assisting in the management of technical staff; (2) assisting in the creation and validation of safety programs by working with regulatory bodies such as Environmental Safety (ESSR) and the Fire Marshal’s office; (3) establishing style guides and templates for the creation of standard operating procedures; workshop & information session curriculum that can be deployed within Technical Operations and shared with partner Makerspaces & academic programs across campus; and (4) participate in the leadership and promotion of Technical Operations as well as the campus and national maker movement.

The position’s essential responsibilities include:

• Assisting in the management of Technical Operations Staff

• Managing Technical Operations Equipment and Resources for Select Labs

• Managing Technical Operations Equipment and Resources for Select Labs

• Conducting Academic outreach activities

• Special Projects: Manage designated projects related to infrastructure or equipment implementation and/or replacement

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience:

• 1 year of supervisory / management experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Mechanical aptitude and demonstrated ability to resolve challenging technical problems
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

Preferences:

Preferred Experience:

• 5 years of experience managing multidisciplinary teams in different locations.
• Experience with, and knowledge of, FDM, FFF, SLA, SLS, DMLS, PJF, and MJF processes is strongly desired.
• Experience using classic machine shop equipment, bandsaw, mill, lathe, CNC, etc.
• Experience in technical writing, specifically onboarding, standard operating procedures, and safety plans.
• Process development, prototyping, and/or other relevant design experience
• Breadth in skills and/or experience across multiple disciplines of additive and subtractive manufacturing engineering is strongly desired.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team
• Ability to execute multiple projects, meet scheduled milestones, and meet deliverables on time with high-quality outputs.
