About The College of Arts &
Science:
Established in 1841, the College of Arts and Science (A&S) is an incredibly special college-we study
everything from the earliest forms of life on Earth, what it means to be human, how we think and organize ourselves, to the universe. We
bring this vast and diverse scope of research and creative work to our students to help them design their own futures, build an inclusive
environment for excellence, and serve Missouri and beyond.
Research and creative work in Arts and Science spans the breadth of
human knowledge. Our faculty are developing cancer fighting radioactive chemicals that we hope will save lives in the not distant future. We
study the fossil record to understand how the Earth has changed and how future changes will affect us, and we develop ways to use data to
understand athletic performance. Our faculty put on theatrical, musical, and artistic performances that stretch our imagination, help us
interpret the world and contemplate the human condition. We seek to understand human behavior to eliminate addiction, while also studying
policy that might help guide us to a better future.
One of our core philosophies is teaching our students how to think, not what
to think. When they know how to think, how to approach problems, how to understand the human condition, how to understand the physical world
in which we live, they can creatively solve any challenge life throws their way. When our graduates move to the next step in their lives,
they are prepared for any career they choose, including ones not yet created. They can think critically, question everything, continually
seek another perspective, and find better answers.
The College of Arts and Science is dedicated to bringing all our work beyond
our classrooms, studios, and laboratories. As a part of an AAU public land grant institution, we serve our state and nation by educating our
students, advancing creative work and research, and engaging Missouri and the nation.
About the Kinder Institute on
Constitutional Democracy:
More than anything, the Kinder Institute is a vibrant, diverse community of scholars who share
not only an academic interest in rigorously unpacking the complex history of constitutional democracy in the U.S. and around the globe but
also a commitment to collective inquiry. Both in the classroom and beyond it, our undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty learn both
alongside and from one another, and they do so with the kind of civility and interdisciplinary curiosity that is essential to generating
innovative scholarship and engaging in productive discourse.
About the Truman School of Government and Public
Affairs:
The Truman School of Government and Public Affairs, named after Missouri-born democrat President Harry S.
Truman, the 33rd president of the U.S. (1945-1953), is NASPAA-accredited and ranked among the top 50 in the U.S. News.
Almost
1,000 students and 10,000 alumni strong, the Truman School of Government and Public Affairs provides an interdisciplinary educational
environment for undergraduate and graduate students.
Our outstanding faculty are published in the top journals in political
science and public affairs and bring that expertise to the classroom. Their research projects provide outstanding opportunities for students
to work in real and influential settings.
For more than 100 years, Mizzou has been providing excellent public service
education. For the last 20 years, the Truman School has been at the forefront of the advancement of knowledge and practice of governance in
Missouri, the nation, and beyond.
We continue this legacy through informing public policy, educating for ethical leadership
in public service, and fostering democratic discourse among citizens, policymakers, and scholars.
The Truman School looks
to continue President Truman’s legacy of commitment to public service. To accomplish this, we aim to educate the leaders of tomorrow. Our
goal is to create a community of people who study different aspects of making the world a better place.
