Position Summary:
Organize, coordinate and oversee a variety of administrative operations and fiscal duties. Directly supervise, monitor and train lower level staff. Act as a liaison for assigned department. Supervise and direct the anesthesia technicians and aides, equipment and supplies, including budgeting, evaluation, procurement, maintenance, and inventory control. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.
Detailed responsibilities:
* SUPERVISION – Develop efficient organizational structure. Supervise employees and select, terminate, train, educate, correct deficiencies, perform appraisals, issue discipline, counsel, schedule work assignments; encourage staff teamwork and growth initiatives
* SUPERVISION – Assume responsibility for the effective functioning of the anesthesia workroom
* SUPERVISION – Organize, direct, and supervise activities in the laboratory office
* SUPERVISION – Establish office routines and workflow patterns, performance standards, and staffing needs
* PROCEDURES – Under direct supervision and upon request of the anesthesia provider make available, medications, assemble and assist with the operation of specialized equipment, i.e., cellsaver, rapid infusion pump, emergency airway equipment, intubation scopes and devices. Maintain knowledge of anesthesia equipment and procedures used at the Hospitals anesthetizing locations
* FACILITY – Maintain department facilities, equipment, and materials in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort, and safety of patients and staff
* EQUIPMENT – Follow preventive maintenance procedures for assigned equipment
* STANDARDS – Define performance standards and evaluate the performance of subordinates against those standards
* SUPERVISION – Obtain physician input into the evaluation of technicians and aides
* SUPERVISION – Counsel and discipline subordinates when necessary and documents such activities appropriately
* SUPERVISION – Ensure compliance by section staff with established policies and procedures, professional standards and practices, requirements of accreditation and regulatory guidelines
* SUPPLIES – Requisition laboratory supplies and maintain supply inventories as directed
* QUALITY – Develop and implement a quality improvement program for the technicians/aides/workroom
* TRAINING – Arrange for formal instruction in the use of equipment for the professional staff
* EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES – Arrange for the evaluation of new equipment and supplies, and provide input into decisions about their acquisition
* TRAINING – Coordinate design and implement section orientation and training programs
* SUPERVISE – Plan, coordinate, and direct the activities of technical staff and clerical support; provide staffing support
* SCHEDULES – Coordinate departmental schedule with consideration to priority of medical indications, equipment and staff availability
* BUDGET – Assist in budget preparation of the department
* PRN – Perform anesthesia technician duties on a limited basis as needed
* DEVELOPMENT – Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops

* CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
Physical Conditions:
Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
