Position Description:
The University of Northern Iowa’s Department of Special Education seeks applicants for a full-time two-year term Instructor position with expertise in mild-moderate disabilities, with the possibility of renewal, starting in January 2023. This position supports two programs: (1) One for nontraditional undergraduate students preparing to be teachers, and so includes synchronous distance/online instruction; and (2) our on-campus face-to-face undergraduate program. The nontraditional students are place-bound and work in communities distant from UNI. They study at a distance from Cedar Falls via synchronous online learning. These students also complete practicum experiences in their local schools. The on-campus students complete their practicum experiences in schools in the Cedar Valley. Teaching content responsibilities may include: assessment, instructional methods, and/or social-emotional behavioral support for K-12 students with disabilities. In addition, this position will be expected to collaborate with their UNI team, assist with the supervision of field-based practicum experiences, and provide service to the department.
The University of Northern Iowa provides a high-quality education, purposefully guiding students to find and develop their strengths and prepare them for success after college. We have a bold vision that we will be a diverse and inclusive campus community that provides an engaged education empowering students to lead locally and globally. As we advance our work to become an equity-oriented institution and realize our vision, we seek to elevate the diversity of our faculty across disciplines, departments, and colleges and to build an inclusive teaching and learning environment. Equity vision hires will be supported by faculty on campus who are working to reimagine our curriculum and pedagogy and to build equitable practices for tenure and promotion; policy review, development and implementation; and student retention, persistence, and success. They will be welcomed to join these efforts.
