General Notes
This position is eligible for commission based on sales attainment. Monthly commission is a direct percentage of sales revenue generated and based on attaining performance goals. Monthly commissions are uncapped and average $1,500 to $3,000 + dollars at quota. Commission is not included in Teacher Retirement System calculations.
Purpose
Secure advertising, sponsorship and event sales to generate revenue for Texas Student Media, and also support circulation and distribution oversight of printed publications for effective product reach, cost management and to maintain and grow business partnerships in market.
Responsibilities
Secure new revenue for the media entities (The Daily Texan, TSTV, KVRX, the Cactus yearbook, UTexas.Rent, the Texas Travesty, Texas A&M Battalion, The Drag podcasts, PodATX Fest, UT Marketplace, Graduates of Texas, Texas Connect and their digital counterparts), prospect with clients, prepare customized media proposals, and solicit agreements that generate revenue.
Maintain relationships with existing clients, forecast revenue, execute special projects, provide departmental support and administrative functions necessary to the media buying process. This includes but is not limited to keeping information current about account contacts, correspondence and sales potentials in customer relationship management system.
Visit clients and prospective clients in market area. If driving a personal vehicle see driving requirements below. Other modes of transportation can be used to visit prospects and clients, as well as virtual meetings.
Audit printed publication distribution locations, monitor accuracy and consistency of deliveries, maintain and grow business relationships with circulation partners.
Support efforts to manage production and distribution costs of printed publications.
Supervise student workers that support circulation and business partnerships.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree. More than two years of business-to-business or professional sales experience and coordination of printed projects. Demonstrated professional demeanor, ability to meet challenging situations with flexibility and tact. Established track record for managing expenses and contributing to profitability of an organization. Experience communicating and providing effective customer service to multiple internal and external stakeholders. Basic computer skills including but not limited to emails, online video meetings, proposal generation, and digital file sharing. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of media sales experience. More than one year of sales experience within college media.
Driving Required
A valid Texas, Class C, driver’s license is required to apply for this job; driving is an essential job function. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver’s license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.
Salary Range
$45,000 + depending on qualifications
Working Conditions
Lift and move standard office files and supplies. Wear appropriate office attire; accept supervision. Work hours may include occasional early mornings, evening, weekends and some holidays during peak periods to meet deadlines. Several events require lifting and moving of boxes, displays and other materials.
Work Shift
Staff is currently working hybrid, with 2-3 days remotely and 2-3 days on campus, but candidates should be prepared to return to working from campus on a full-time basis if appropriate.
