ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: INDUSTRIAL DESIGN (Job ID #17869)
The School of Art & Design at the University of Wisconsin – Stout invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Industrial Design, commencing August 2022. This is a tenure-track, 9-month academic year position.
This job announcement is being announced simultaneously with the Lecturer: Industrial Design (Job ID 17870). Vacancy will be filled with either one (1) Assistant Professor or one (1) Lecturer. More information below in the How to Apply section.
QUALIFICATIONS (Assistant Professor)
Minimum / Required
• Terminal degree (M.F.A., Ph.D., etc.) in an area of expertise relevant to Industrial Design
• Evidence of teaching experience
• Two years professional Industrial Design experience
Highly Desired
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge of contemporary issues and techniques as they relate to Industrial Design
• Creative and artistic excellence as demonstrated in professional level accomplishments in the field of Industrial Design
• Evidence of a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching
• Strong evidence of technical skills including design drawing and presentation, knowledge of 3D software including Solidworks and/or Rhino, model making, and 3D digital fabrication processes
RESPONSIBILITIES
Share in leadership in BFA in Industrial Design. Teach studio lab courses each semester, following NASAD guidelines, that may include beginning, intermediate, and advanced industrial design classes, including the MFA graduate program; as well as other studio lab courses that support the major. Other responsibilities include:
• Provide service for the department, school, college, and university
• Provide student academic advisement and conduct assessment of student learning. This includes contributing to academic program assessment and continuous improvement processes, in collaboration with faculty and staff. Attend department, school, and university meetings
• Actively participate in department, school, and university committees
• Demonstrate organizational skills, collegiality, and the potential for future leadership in the Industrial Design program
• Participate in the laptop teaching and learning environment
• Provide technical teaching in both analog and digital skills.
• Engage in professional creative research and scholarly activity
• Maintain office hours and a healthy and safe classroom environment
• Pursue external funding
• Collaborate with the Program Director for Industrial Design to develop new / revised curriculum, as required
• Perform other duties as designated by Department Chair
