BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT – Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: knowledge of the principles and practices of health services research; administering and scoring a wide variety of psychological and neuropsychological tests; collecting and analyzing data; utilizing data management programs such as Excel and Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS); providing training to staff; and maintaining research study files. –OR-
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) – Successful completion of 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s degree or master’s or equivalent graduate degree with a in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position to substitute for the one year of experience, is fully qualifying for the GS-9. –OR-
COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) – Combination of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. -AND-
ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position.

Physical Requirements: The position requires manual dexterity, proficient handwriting ability and speed, typing skills, and mild physical exertion (i.e., lifting of test supplies, records, and equipment). Walking/independent mobility, listening, writing, and sitting for prolonged periods of time (2-8 hours) is also required. Employee may be required to work under stressful situations with uncooperative, poorly motivated, and possibly emotionally distressed and sometimes disruptive patients. The ability to tolerate the non-physical demands of this position are critical to the employee’s ability to be successful in this role.
Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
