KSOM HR is actively seeking a full-time Human Resources Specialist. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, primary responsibilities include providing support and guidance for leave of absences, workers compensation, transitional return to work accommodations, and employee relations. This position will also provide support and guidance with recruitment, staffing, on-boarding, compensation, payroll, policy interpretation and other HR functions and processes.
Job Accountabilities:
Support and administer daily human resource operations, services and programs. Develop and initiate effective customer service through consistent and equitable application of university policy and procedures.
Assist the HR Director with the development of short and long-range strategic plans to improve customer service, programs and processes. Monitor and track effectiveness through such means as developing communication vehicles, training programs, and/or web-based resources. Develop new and better methods for creating employee work environments. Plan and coordinate implementation and maintenance of reporting activities.
Responsible for leave of absence cases, the administration and oversight of leave of absence policies and case management workflow. Receive and respond to leave of absence and disability accommodation requests, as well as prepare and distribute required documentation.
Assist with and support employee relations intake and information gathering process. Meet with concerned parties to discuss concerns, work-related problems and/or issues. Conduct preliminary intake, provide analysis and recommendations to Human Resources Director. Facilitate reporting mechanisms as needed.
Develop, apply and interpret human resources policies and procedures to KSOM stakeholders.
Collaborate and service departments with staff projections, recruitment, job offers, and onboarding. Collaborate with KSOM department stakeholders regarding hiring and recruitment strategies, sourcing, screening and interviews.
Interact with central university offices for collaboration purposes, advice, and information to facilitate administration and delivery of HR service line.
Generate reports for monitoring and assisting with performing projections, statistical and trend analyses.
Must Have:
Bachelor’s Degree. Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.
Three years of direct Human Resource experience.
Strong critical thinking, judgment and decision-making ability, including the ability to weigh short and long-term costs and benefits of a potential decision and/or action.
Excellent communication skills including refined writing skills and the ability to speak clearly and concisely.
Proven ability to handle sensitive and challenging conversations and interpersonal relationships.
Demonstrated ability to accurately document conversations and events.
Strong understanding of state and federal employment legislation including FLSA, ADA, EEOC, FMLA and CFRA.
Strong technical skills and learning aptitude.
Demonstrated ability to manage time, prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and follow through with high volume caseload and projects.
Ability to work well under pressure and handle conflict with a high degree of professionalism.
Excellent time management skills, organizational skills and a strong bias for action.
Consistently function in a positive, friendly and helpful demeanor by phone and in person. Excellent customer service skills and work orientation.
Team oriented and collaborative work style.

Salary: This is a monthly-paid exempt position. Starting pay range $68,000 – $75,000/year.
Minimum Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s Degree. Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education. Experience: 3 years Minimum Field of Expertise: Directly related human resource experience providing thorough knowledge of laws governing human resource and policies and procedures. Knowledge of human resource theories, principles and practices. Knowledge of principles and processes involved in business and organizational planning, coordination and execution. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills. Preferred Requirements: Education: MA/MS degree Experience: 5 years Field of Expertise: Demonstrated experience in successfully handling a high volume of employee relations activity using application of professional experience, employment law, and organizational practices and procedures. Prior supervisory/management experience. PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification.
