The Town of Herndon has an immediate need for a Utility Maintenance Worker I in the Department of Public works, Refuse division. This department is oversees all construction and land development, building inspections, water and sewer and street maintenance.. As a Utility Maintenance Worker I, you will assist with the town refuse and recycling curbside collection program.
In this position, you will support the Town of Herndon by:
• Assisting with roadside and public space (parks) litter collection, street cans and dog waste stations collection.
• Assisting with special events, and weather emergency operations.
• Operating a variety of light to heavy equipment and trucks.
• Assisting with refuse and recycling collection code enforcement.
• Overseeing the maintenance of street cans, public spaces, bus stations, downtown areas are free of litter and debris.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable record.
• Ability to obtain a forklift certification within six (6) months of employment.
Essential Personnel Notice:
This position is considered “essential personnel”; defined as staff who are required to report to their designated work location during weather related or other emergencies, even when town offices are closed, or normal operations suspended.

Due to the nature of a government providing services to the public all duties of this position are required to be fulfilled at the designated worksite in the town. No remote work is available.
