Position purpose
Serves as a career advisor for students with a major focus on internships. Develops and
administers “outreach” programs to inform both faculty and students of the need for internship planning and its impact on career
management. Plans and administers career service internship-focused programs and events to guide students through the internship search
process as well as applications to graduate or professional schools. Collaborate with the Director of Career Services in securing
partnerships within different STEM-focused industries and organizations both locally and nationwide, particularly ones interested in
engineering and computer science graduates. Coordinate with the Title III HSI-STEM Project Director and engage in grant activities to
support students in their career exploration. All responsibilities serve a dual purpose – to support the Career Services department,
while also meeting grant expectations.

Education and Experience
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred. Previous professional experience in career
counseling, job placement, human resources, or related field is required. Experience advising STEM students or working in STEM-related
fields.
Professional Skills
Candidates must demonstrate abilities such as counseling; building rapport with
students, faculty, and employers; strong verbal and written communication skills; good analytical and problem-solving abilities, and
computer skills.
Reasoning Ability
The person in this position must be able to identify and define a
challenge(s), research and collect data relevant to the challenge(s) and develop and execute a strategy to overcome the challenge(s).
Additionally, they will need to develop a method to assess and document progress and take corrective action if necessary. This individual
will need to be able to take and follow directions as well as accept and benefit from constructive feedback.
Work environment
and physical functions
This position is in an office environment. Generally, an employee needs to be able to sit, stand, and
navigate within the office area. The office equipment, either individually used or shared with a department is the responsibility of all
employees.
Preferred:
Candidates with internship-related experience or higher education career services
