We are looking to hire an Environmental Health Specialist Sr. This position interprets and applies environmental laws, regulations, policies and procedures to determine compliance and reduce risks to the public’s health. Primary responsibilities include: performing periodic sanitary inspections of food services for the Food Safety Program (documenting violations and recommending corrective action), inspecting and permitting migrant labor camps, tourist establishments (including TES pools) and temporary food booths at festivals and fairs, investigating animal bites following established guidelines, reviewing construction plans of food establishments, conducting licensing inspection through the Department of Education and responding to food borne illness and general environmental complaints.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to perform moderately strenuous physical activities outdoors required
A valid State Driver’s License is required to operate a state vehicle or if operating a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the agency.
***Those candidates not meeting the VDH Standardized Food Environmental Health Specialist Certification qualification may be considered for an Environmental Health Specialist (entry level) position and must be able to complete training in VDH Food Program and receive Food Standardization credentials within 18 months.

Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results of a state and federal criminal history background check and the Department of Social Services Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check, U.S. HHS IG Exclusion List check, employment reference check, and E-Verify. The selected candidate must complete a Statement of Personal Economic Interests as a condition of employment, if applicable (Va. Code § 2.2-3114). Other financial, credit, driving, or other background checks prior to employment may be required for certain positions.
All personnel of the Chesterfield Health District must have an evaluation of their immunization status within the first 10 days of employment.
