The Norfolk Department of Public Health (NDPH) is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor to oversee the Long Term Support Services (LTSS), communicable diseases, maternal and child health, and state sponsored health insurance programs (Project Connect & Healthy Kids).
The selected candidate will supervise approximately 6 – 10 Registered Nurses and 2-4 ancillary staff members. Must be able to supervise and provide population-based community education related to community-based programs, knowledgeable of long-term care for the elderly and disabled, prenatal and pediatric health, communicable disease prevention and treatment. This applicant will be responsible for assisting the Nurse Manager with strategic planning, grant writing and program implementation, compliance and monitoring. It is expected that this candidate will interact with clients, families, health care providers, agency leadership team and assist the staff with program operation during times of staff shortage and/or peak demands. In the event of an emergency, the RN Supervisor is required to assume other duties during the District’s emergency preparedness and response activities, including but not limited to points-of-dispensing (POD) mass vaccination events and shelter coverage.
During declared emergencies, this will require an adjustment to work hours, location, job duties as well as participation in trainings to meet public health business needs.

Minimum Qualifications
The selected candidate will have a current unrestricted Virginia Registered Nurse (RN) license and/or with Compact Designation (Multi-State Privileges). Must possess working knowledge of the principles and practice of public health, and community health nursing experience. Program management and previous leadership/supervisory experience required. Must have excellent communication skills including the ability to develop and present education programs. Must have experience in educating and training others. Proficiency in Microsoft Office application (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and CPR certification required. Must have the ability to use own vehicle with mileage reimbursement with a good driving record. A valid State Driver’s License is required to operate a state vehicle or if operating a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the agency.
Preferred Qualifications
Prefer BSN, MSN, MPH or equivalent training & experience. Previous registered nurse experience in one of the following areas: long-term care, working with the disabled, prenatal and newborn care or public health. Grant management experience and bilingual English/ Spanish skills are a plus.
Special Requirements
Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results of a state and federal criminal history background check and the Department of Social Service’s Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check, U.S. HHS IG Exclusion List check, employment reference check, and E-Verify. The selected candidate must complete a Statement of Personal Economic Interests as a condition of employment, if applicable (Va. Code § 2.2-3114). Other financial, credit, driving, or other background checks prior to employment may be required for certain positions. Applicants must maintain insurability. Some evenings/weekends may be required. Salary is negotiable with appropriate training, experience, and competency.
VDH requires all Health-Care Personnel (HCP) to provide documentation of immunization or evidence of immunity to the following: hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella; a one-time dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) vaccine regardless of the interval since the last dose of tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccine was administered (Td or Tdap boosters shall be received every 10 years); and the current year’s seasonal influenza vaccination.
