Warwick Public Schools Hiring for General Accountant – General Ledger Job at Warwick, RI Full Time

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Responsible for the day-to-day general ledger transactions; audit data collection and miscellaneous cash deposits. Assists in the preparation of local, state and federal reporting. Support all departments relative to account coding and general accounting requirements.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

• Typing, correspondence, manual checks and entering information into a database.
• Telephone communication as required by the department and/or supervisor.
• Collect and Process payments to the school department and deposit with city
• Invoice outside agencies and school districts for money owed to Warwick Schools
• Maintenance of files and records as required.
• Communication with staff, other departments and the public as required
• Review monthly financial reports as to their accuracy and proper coding of all accounts.
• To assist in the preparation of schedules for the annual fiscal and compliance audits.
• Create and maintain spreadsheets and databases.
• Process Building use forms and communicate with outside agencies.
• Other related duties as required by department and/or supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The ability to make accurate tabulations and computations; the ability to readily understand and carry out directions, both oral and written; reasonable speed and accuracy in and keyboarding; must be able to meet or exceed minimum standards set in regards to applicant testing; the ability to communicate orally with staff and the public; should be familiar with office equipment including, but not limited to: word processor, computer, calculator telephone, photocopier and familiarity with applicable software applications, specifically those involving spreadsheets and statistical programs, preferred, but not required; the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in written form; the ability to handle confidential data and material with utmost discretion; the ability to develop an effective working relationship with staff, other departments and the public; the ability to work independently and resolve problems in the absence of the Director of Finance; fund accounting experience desirable; prefer experience in computers and the ability to perform duties with an awareness of school department requirements and policies.

EDUCATION:

Such as may be gained through graduation from a senior high school or equivalent (GED) in addition to graduation from a four year college with a degree in business or equivalent combination of education and experience. Several years business experience as an accountant or in-charge bookkeeper required.
