Washington International Academy (WIA) is a nationally accredited, faith-based, academically strong Pre-K to 8th grade school. We are seeking a full time experienced elementary teacher for First Grade for the 2021/2022 school year.

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in education and a minimum of two years of relevant teaching experience.

Primary Responsibilities

Planning and Instruction

• Plan and implement lesson plans in core subjects: English language arts, math, science and social studies according to the Virginia SoL’s.

• Create weekly lesson plans and modify curriculum maps accordingly throughout the year.

• Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.

Management

• Maintain an effective educational environment and well-organized classroom to optimize student learning.

• Manage student behavior in the classroom by creating a positive classroom community.

• Willingness to integrate principles of Islamic adab (good manners) is a plus.

Assessment and Communication

• Observe and evaluate student’s performance using a variety of methods, both formative and summative.

• Differentiate instruction based on assessment to ensure all students are reached.

• Keep parents informed of student progress and behavior.

Administrative/Other

• Work with program coordinators and/or principal and colleagues to ensure school-improvement initiatives are being met.

• Attend staff meetings, training sessions and school events.

• Follow all state health requirements.

Requirements:

• Must have at least 2 years of relevant teaching experience

• Bachelor’s degree minimum, preferably in education

• Teaching license preferred

Pay: $36,000.00 – $45,000.00 per year
