Administers the activities of a major operational branch within the city’s wastewater treatment and disposal program; directs and administers the operations of multiple treatment facilities within a geographic region; and performs other related duties as required.
The current vacancy is responsible for the administration, operation and maintenance of the Leeward Operations Branch (Honouliuli Wastewater Treatment Plant and Leeward District Wastewater Plants); analyzing facilities operations and instituting or recommending changes for more efficient operations and to ensure compliance with all Federal, State and City Department/Division requirements/directives/regulations; maintaining effective communications and working relationships with subordinates, fellow employees, managerial personnel, government and union officials, consulting engineers, contractors, and the general public. In the performance of the job, the position may require use of safety and protective equipment due to possible exposure to active machinery, high voltages, depths and heights, toxic and explosive gases, high pressure fluid systems and disease bearing wastewater and obnoxious, filthy and hazardous environment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in an engineering specialty or a related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Four years of professional engineering work in the design of wastewater pumping and treatment facilities, including or supplemented by one year of responsible administrative experience in the operation and maintenance of a large wastewater treatment plant with extensive and highly complex processes and facilities, or five years of responsible administrative experience in the operation and maintenance of a large wastewater treatment plant with extensive and highly complex processes and facilities.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of an appropriate valid driver’s license, as required.
The current vacancy requires a valid automobile (Type 3) driver’s license, prior to appointment.
