The Wayne County Dept. of Mental Health-Wayne Behavioral Health Network, currently has a number full-time vacancies for Licensed Social Workers and/or LMHC’s to function as Primary Mental Health Therapists working in our behavioral health clinics located in Lyons, NY, Wayne County. The positions are full-time and include generous benefits.
These positions are available in a variety of assigned programs including: our OMH Licensed Adult Mental Health Clinic; our School based Mental Health Clinics; and our Jail Forensic Mental Health Clinic or our Open Access Center (OAC). The OAC has multiple shifts available as it is a 24/7 program.
TITLE: Staff Social Worker *Provisional Appointment pending Civil Service Exam -Residency requirement is waived.
Salary: starting $28.34 hourly ($51,579 annually 35 hours/week)

*The term provisional means that you will be required to take the next Civil Service examination for this title and place among the top three (3) candidates on the examination willing to accept position in order to be eligible for permanent appointment.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: These duties require the performance of social work/mental health counseling in helping patients with social, emotional and related difficulties associated with their disability. The work is performed within prescribed routines with some leeway permitted in determining the scope of the work to be performed in helping the patient to adjust to his old or a new environment. The Social Worker or LMHC functions under the direction of the Supervising Social Worker, Program Supervisor, Sr. Program Supervisor or other supervising mental health professional, who may define or limit the work to be performed.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative only) Participates in the intake and screening of new patients, evaluating and diagnosing the patient and problems; Participates as a team member in individual, group and family therapy; Provides social work services to help patients adjust to their disabilities and social environment; Refers clients to other governmental and non-governmental agencies; Compiles case studies, recording pertinent information; Plans with the community mental health team and with community agencies to relate to patient’s treatment and rehabilitation program to his social situation prior to his discharge; Collects and maintains appropriate data from various sources such as professional staff and patients’ families to establish an overall approach to the solution of patients’ mental and social problems; Maintains information on community and health resources which can be utilized during the patient’s care and subsequent to his discharge; Participates in the process of transfer of patients to other levels of treatment as appropriate.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of the practices and procedures of social work and of the social factors affecting disease and disability; the ability to organize work effectively; the ability to interpret federal, state and local laws affecting the medical and health programs; and the ability to prepare reports.
ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: A Master’s Degree in social work, mental health counseling or other approved degree from a graduate school of social work approved by the New York State Department of Education or other approved college, is required at the time of appointment, and current licensure to practice social work or clinical social work or mental health counseling, (LCSW, LMSW, or LMHC) in the State of NY is preferred at the time of hire or required within 6 months.
