Position Summary: The primary responsibility of the Telecommunications Foreman is to provide the technical supervision, oversight, and direction to work activities as it relates to contracted telecommunications work and the employees executing the work. The Telecommunications Foreman also represents the company on the job site in interaction with internal and external personnel and communicates the content of such interaction to management.
General Purpose: Plan and direct all construction site activities and telecommunications field staff to achieve project completion; liaison for company at project site to employees, clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
Essential Job Functions: (estimated time for function)
· Work with the field staff to observe and ensure safe, quality work in compliance with all code and contract requirements while meeting company standards (50%)
· Plan, organize and assign job site tasks and secure materials and tools to meet specified schedule, safety, quality, time and budget objectives (15%)
· Assist with company process of employee development by mentoring, addressing employee morale, and recognizing and communicating the need for involvement of Human Resources (5%)
· Budget, track and forecast project labor hours accurately and make the necessary adjustments to achieve the previously developed labor budget (10%)
· Establish and maintain productive relationships with construction management team and coordinate with the electrical foreman to ensure efficient coordination of activities (10%)
· Maintain all company records and project documentation and communicate in an open, honest and candid manner with the company project management team to assure effective problem resolution (10%)
· Reliable mode of transportation to commute to multiple job sites that are up to a 1 ¼ hour from your home address
Essential Skills, Education and Experience:
· Technical competence in commercial telecommunications construction and installation as demonstrated by a minimum of 5 years’ experience
· A high school diploma or General Education Equivalent (GED)
· Current BICSI classification, state license, and/or manufacturing certificate
· Current certificates of formal training in construction safety and OSHA requirements or willingness to participate in formal training in order to identify potential safety concerns
· Ability to read and interpret drawings, schedules, specifications, labor forecasts and contracts
· Ability to ensure installation meets the national, state and local building/electrical code requirements; RIA/TIA standards and BICSI standards
· Good leadership and organization skills as demonstrated by prior field leadership experience
· Ability to deal with diverse people and personalities at all levels
· Ability to multitask in stressful and adverse conditions
· Open, honest, direct, credible, and candid communications at all times
· Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language
· Computer literacy in Word and Excel or participation in training
· Exposure to variety of telecommunication installations and project types
Reporting to this position: Crew leaders, technicians, and telecommunications apprentices assigned to the project
Position Responsibilities:
· Manually work with electrical telecommunication construction tools during the project
· Oversee and review all contract documents for technical installation methods and a complete understanding of the scope of work
· With assistance of Project Manger, develop implementation for complete project construction plan including the schedule, required bill of materials and budget. Plan in advance to meet necessary project deadlines based on the current project schedule
· Work to establish the project budget; monitor material and labor needs on a continuous basis to successfully perform within the project budget
· Communicate scope, technical and project information to crew leaders and craft force. Verify work of crew leaders and field craft to ensure work is conducted in accordance with the plan
· Monitor the project’s overall progress in relation to the agreed to construction schedule, including labor tracking. Work with Project Manager to implement the necessary methods to meet schedule milestones and budget objectives
· Direct low voltage system subcontractors as required
· Provide assistance in material and labor takeoffs associated with project changes; comply with company policy regarding performance of change order work
· Maintain all records and paperwork on the project for complete documentation including the project budget, labor records, payroll records, a daily log, pictures, video tapes, copies of signed change orders, weekly progress reports and projected weekly workload plans
· Represent the company professionally at company meetings
· Coordinate with local utility companies and government agencies
· Submit information relative to performance/conduct to Human Resource Department. In conjunction with the Human Resources Department, address employee concerns as appropriate.
· Implement discretionary decisions with spending authority up to $5,000.00 for immediate life safety issued in accordance with Company policy
· Conduct safety meetings and oversee all safety related activities on the project, including completion of accident investigations
· Advise the Project Manager of any potential problems or issues that may impact the progress of work or otherwise result in failure to meet scheduled deadlines or budgets
· Seek the newest and best methods and materials for the project
· Additional duties, as required
