Summary:
Reporting to a Human Resources Business Partner, the HR Generalist performs a variety of Human Resources activities for American Career College, West Coast University, Shared Services and/or Administration in a multi-faceted, multi-location academic setting.
Advises supervisors/managers of various state and federal regulations; provides employee relations support to associates in an effort to resolve workplace issues.
Mediates differences between associates and supervisors in support of a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
Conducts internal investigations working with legal counsel and relevant subject matter experts.
Promotes direct communication and positive rapport among associates, supervisors and senior management.
Takes an active role in performance management and use of various resources to assist managers in addressing job performance and other behavioral issues.
Answers questions from associates in all areas of Human Resources and directs them as appropriate.
Responsibilities:
Meets with associates to hear concerns, answer questions to promote/educate them on organizational policies and procedures. Encourages problem resolution through the appropriate chain of command making considerations for matters of a sensitive nature. Mediates differences between associates and supervisors.
Serves as a resource for associates and management at American Career College, West Coast University, Shared Services, and Administration on issues where the company’s interests may be at risk. Coordinates with managers to assure adherence to policies and procedures for initiating disciplinary processes. Consults with key stakeholders and legal counsel to mitigate risk to the company.
Applies knowledge of company policies and procedures, state and federal regulations when dealing with a wide variety of employment situations and maintains consistency and fairness at all times. Consults with subject matter experts as necessary.
Conducts internal investigations and produces findings and report at conclusion of investigation.
Helps to administer leaves of absence claims from associates.
Researches and drafts legal responses to requests from external legal correspondence, lawsuits, and complaints filed with local, state and federal agencies.
Works closely with management on associate counseling and advises management on appropriate corrective action. Participates in separation meetings. Prepares separation agreements as needed.
Stays current on changes to local, state and federal rules and regulations regarding employment laws, and employee relations. Administers human resources policy and procedures. Researches and recommends when changes are warranted.
May conduct associate surveys and exit interviews to identify organizational strengths, as well as areas for improvements.
Analyzes data on associate turnover and satisfaction for any trends/patterns/high risk areas, informs human resources management on relevant issues and recommends strategies/corrective action in order to enhance associate relations.
Takes a role in associate performance interventions utilizing performance management tools (i.e., development courses for performance improvement). Reviews the process and documentation used to evaluate, enhance job performance and to correct unacceptable workplace behaviors.
Reviews documents used to evaluate, correct and enhance job performance and other workplace behaviors in order to assure overall fairness, consistency and compliance.
Administers effective and appropriate compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Recommends areas to develop and/or change. Educates managers/supervisor on EEOC compliance, including employment practices and associate development.
May conduct training sessions with management and/or associates on areas identified for performance improvement in accordance with human resource strategic plan. Works closely with subject matter experts on developing/implementing specific associate performance improvement plans.
Acts as the campus coordinator for on-boarding new Associates.
Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the Company’s Code of Ethical Conduct, Compliance Agreement, Sexual Harassment Policy or any of its policies and procedures, applicable federal and states laws, and applicable professional standards.
Maintains regular and timely attendance, reports to work as scheduled and assures time worked and/or time-off is recorded properly.
Maintains established department policies, procedures and attends in-services and other required meetings.
Maintains confidentiality of all student, associate, and/or company information as required.
Exercises care, proper use and maintenance of department equipment and supplies and identifies unsafe conditions and makes appropriate adjustments.
Maintains order, cleanliness and safety at work.
May perform other duties as assigned.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in related field (Business Administration or Human Resources Management) or equivalent experience required.
Licenses/Certifications:
PHR or SHRM-CP Preferred.
Knowledge/Experience:
Minimum two years employee relations experience.
Experience in fast-paced, high volume environment.
Knowledge of principles and practices of human resources including internal investigations.
Strong working knowledge of state and federal laws related to Human Resources functions, plus separation, employee relations and investigative procedures with special focus on California law.
Must be experienced in data analytics and research techniques to supply the most accurate information, reports and recommendations.
Experience with MS Office.
Knowledge of local, state and federal governmental regulatory standards related to employment law.
Demonstrated experience in working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

This is a campus-based position, which requires an in-person presence on a regular basis.
Ability to travel on a semi-regular basis to FL & CA, based on business & training needs.
