Job Summary:
As a Sr. Industrial Designer, you’ll be part of our West’s global headquarter R&D team located in Exton, PA / Virtual. You will help improve the patient experience of wearable and injectable drug delivery systems through a relentless User-Centric Design methodology. The role will collaborate with cross-functional R&D teams to provide creative input towards user requirements and ergonomic design solutions on new product development. They will lead and support day-to-day project management, industrial design, physical and digital UX design, product instructions for use (IFU), QRG development, training & onboarding collateral. In addition, the Sr. Industrial Designer will present innovative user-centric design strategies to stakeholders and senior leaders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Effectively communicate conceptual ideas, detailed design, and design rationale both verbally and visually
Read publications, study competing products, design styles, and motifs to obtain perspective and generate design concepts
Create user requirements specifications, personas, storyboards, flowcharts, user journeys roadmaps, heuristic evaluations, design prototypes, and participate in the execution of conducting small-scale usability studies on new concept directions generated across the enterprise.
Create compelling designs based upon Ideation, Research, and Product Requirements. Communicate design intent through highly resolved 2D and 3D drawings, 3D CAD models, project documentation, and presentation. Produce inspiring sketches/illustrations/visuals of advanced industrial design concepts with the user in mind
Drive the implementation of West’s early concept ideation process including, conceptualizing ergonomic form factors, mock-ups, and prototyping, design refinement, preliminary packaging (functional and aesthetics)
Works across business functions to align West Design Thinking ideology and champion user-centric industrial design best practices to internal stakeholders
Work closely with technology/discovery engineering teams to evaluate technical alternatives and facilitate implementation of the best solutions and ensure properly targeted design concepts can be manufactured and assembled at scale

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s in Industrial Design
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a product design/development role
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Exceptional sketch ideation capabilities and storytelling
Strong oral & written communication skills
Experience with 3D printing / Rapid Prototyping technologies and basic modeling techniques
Proficiency with standard design tools (Solidworks, Keyshot, Sketchbook Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop, Keyshot, Wacom tablet, etc.) Minimum 5 years.
Ability to communicate industrial design intent through CAD
Understanding of user research, user experience design
Self-motivated and passionate
Basic understanding of manufacturing processes
Strong mechanical aptitude
Medical device design, electronic device design, and digital UX design preferred
Portfolio/work samples required for consideration
Travel Requirements:
Less than 5% travel domestically
