Assignment Description:

Willamette Valley Academy is a non-profit private school serving grades 5-8. Willamette Valley Academy specializes in providing enhanced summa curriculum and is located in the heart of Bethany Village.

Willamette Valley Academy is accepting applications for the 2021-2022 school year for a Mathematics teacher skilled in teaching students who are placed in advanced level courses for their age or have prior experience attending outside summa programs or other programs of the like. A favorable candidate also has experience in AMC math competitions.

Applicants are well versed in weaving technology into school curriculum to enhance learning experiences for children. Applicants have strong curriculum pedagogy and have a deep understanding of how to differentiate curriculum to serve students who are academically gifted.

Required Qualifications:

Prior teaching or industry experience math. Preferred major in mathematics.

Purpose of Position:

Academic teacher designs, plans and implements science and mathematics curriculum that enhances learning for students seeking additional opportunities to dive into content beyond what is offered in standard TAG or summa programs. The teacher interacts positively with students, engages in collaborative conversations to foster learning growth, and strives to support all students in achieving academic goals.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Maintains a safe learning environment for all students to foster learning and create a positive learning environment.

2. Maintains high professional standards and conducts oneself in a professional manner at all times.

3. Acts ethically and responsibly at all times.

4. Works collaboratively with other educators and administrators to refine curriculum and teaching practices to ensure student success.

5. Implements curriculum in accordance with WVA standards and guidelines.

6. Plans lessons based on grade level standards and differentiates lessons based on student placement and achievement. Lessons extend beyond general education and continuously provide opportunities for students to apply and improve problem solving skills.

7. Delivers extended opportunities for students to apply curriculum by integrating student participation in local, state, and national competitions in classroom curriculum.

8. Continually and promptly assesses student performance and communicates performance with parents and students in a timely manner.

9. Communicates on a weekly basis student academic and behavior progress to families and students utilizing the WVA learning management system.

10. Participates in school wide events to promote strong student and family relationships and to recruit future students to WVA.

11. Communicates verbally and in writing with families, students and WVA faculty members.

12. Interacts with students professionally and creates a learning environment that is safe for students, fosters learning, creates a stimulating learning environment, motivates students, and builds respectful relationships.

13. Integrates research-based classroom pedagogy to deliver curriculum.

14. Communicates learning standards with students and families and shows a clear progression of how students can achieve learning outcomes.

15. Provides continuous feedback to students and parents indicating areas of improvement to help students achieve the next level of learning.
