The Health Equity Data Scientist develops and implements strategies to support the analytic needs of the Yale New Haven Health System Office of Health Equity and Community Advancement. Provides leadership and direction of statistical analysis performed for the team, including analytic plans, evaluation, and assessment. Performs advanced data analysis using the Epic Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to generate insights useful to key personnel and outside organizations. Extracts and cleans large volumes of healthcare data across dozens of sources focused on clinical, operations, finance, population health, community health and social determinants of health. Applies expert statistical methodologies to investigate clinical outcomes. Partners effectively with health equity, care signature, community health, and population health teams, corporate leadership (IT, Operations, and Finance), clinicians, software engineers and other stakeholders to communicate findings using data visualization techniques. Uses knowledge of statistical theory, health services research and business operations to make recommendations to bring best practices to the Office?s projects and champions high standards and cutting edge analytic approaches.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION
Master’s degree or higher in computer science, business, economics, mathematics, statistics, public policy, public health, biostatistics, or other related fields. Formal training in health services research methods is preferred.
EXPERIENCE
5+ years? experience and relevant competencies in statistical analysis of health outcomes research, or other relevant field. Extensive experience with CMS administrative claims data and big data analytics. Proficiency in key statistical techniques (predictive modeling, logistic regression, survival analysis, design of experiments, hierarchical modeling, data mining methods, and other advanced statistical techniques). Robust SAS or SQL programming experience working with complex datasets, and experience with Python and R. Experience with Tableau and Power BI.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Deep understanding of analytics and data wrangling in large data sets from multiple data sources. A working knowledge of database principles, processes, technologies and tools. Demonstrated quantitative and qualitative skills researching and analyzing healthcare issues. Ability to synthesize and summarize large amounts of information and to focus quickly on the essence of an issue. Works with autonomy to find solutions to complex problems using open source tools and in-house development. Working knowledge of computer software to support research project(s). Well-developed oral and written communication, statistical, organizational, and analytical skills that include the ability to bring applied knowledge to analytic questions. Develops and maintains relationships with business, IT and clinical leaders and stakeholders across the enterprise. Project management, supervisory and staff training skills. Demonstrated experience managing multiple tasks simultaneously that cover a broad range of technical areas and adhering to deadlines. Comprehensive knowledge of health care quality measurement methods and policy. Possesses advanced statistics and SAS programming skills. Ability and experience to perform independent/unsupervised exploratory data analysis and statistical analysis (e.g., ANOVA, regression analysis, propensity-score matched cohort analysis). Strong social justice and health equity interests.
