The BEISS is responsible for maintaining and updating documentation and assisting with purchasing decisions on assigned equipment in supported areas. The BEISS acquires, maintains and shares technical skills necessary to become and remain competent and proficient on the assigned equipment which integrates biomedical technologies with information systems. The BEISS is responsible for cross-training additional service technicians, must prioritize their work appropriately to provide quick response to service calls and work necessary overtime or on-call as required. The BEISS works effectively with and provides assistance and direction to support staff across departmental organizations. The BEISS should be customer focused, have good communication and interpersonal skills. Bachelor degree in biomedical equipment technology, information technology, electronics or other technology job related fields and two years’ experience, or Associates degree in any field and 4 years’ service experience in the biomedical and/or information technology field is required, or no education and 7 years’ service experience in the biomedical and/or information technology field is required.
Authorization to work and remain in the United States, without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorship now, or in the future (for example, be a U.S. Citizen, national, or permanent resident, refugee, or asylee).
Preference may be given to biomedical equipment technicians with experience, and years of experience with laboratory environment and/or specifically performing PMs and repair on laboratory equipment. Looking for service technicians with experience servicing Roche chemistry, Sysmex hematology, Instrumentation Laboratory coagulation equipment, Siemens or other urine analyzers, Radiometer blood gas analyzers, or other core chemistry, hematology or coagulation laboratory instruments. Experience servicing other sophisticated laboratory equipment such as BD Microbiology, Flow Cytometry, Automated Liquid Handling, Microscopes or other optical devices are also applicable.
Training in biomedical equipment is preferred. Familiarization with medical terminology, human anatomy, physiology and chemistry is helpful. Knowledge of computer operating systems, system networking (LAN, WAN, VLAN, and VPN), database servers, digital imaging, DICOM and HL7 standards, PACS, and IHE (Integrating Healthcare Enterprise) initiatives is desirable. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record in accordance with Mayo Clinic Policy.
